Initially, they opened a holiday “pop up” store. It worked well enough to take a long-term lease.

I first went in nyc think soho. I found it to be over priced and cheap quality. While their concept of controlling labor etc is good. you would think they could come up with a better product.

American Apparel is great for the basic pieces for your wardrobe, and the fact that all items are made 100% in the USA is reason enough for me to support them. Their items are also “brand free”, meaning that if you want to put stuff on t-shirts and sell them for a profit, you can do so easily, and legally. Yes, you do spend a little more on a t-shirt (or hoody, or sweats), but you are actually supporting a business that insures their employees, and are guaranteed that if something is not up to standard, at least it was made incorrectly by an adult (vs those poor kids in 3rd world countries).

i went in there and i couldn’t even afford a thong. it doesnt matter how good they treat their employees, i could get the same kind of t shirt in the arts and crafts store for 3 bucks (and thicker material). its way way way way WAY too overpriced for what they’re selling.

You are dead-on! Keep those little children working hard in China, you’re totally right, it’s absolutely worth it!

American Apparel is one of the few clothing companies in the U.S., manufacturing a good, basic product, in this country, and trying to employ U.S. workers in a decent, respectable enviroment. WAKE UP, PEOPLE! This is a good thing. This is a good thing to be supported. The person who can’t see the value in that, is the same person who shops at Wal-Mart, buys an arm-load of their cheap, imported “goods” and goes home and wonders why they see news stories about yet another U.S. company closing a plant or factory and laying off thousands. Everyone wants something out of the system, but no one wants to put anything into it.
