J & D Provisions Inc

Update: J&D Provisions seems to be a doomed Hoboken business as of March 2013 – See info here.

Another J&D Wine & Cheese tasting from 3:30 -7:30pm

4/23/2010 Update:

J & D Provisions (10 Paterson Ave.) is back with another Wine tasting from 3:30 – 7:30pm today!

Why is Hoboken411 promoting this again you ask? Well for one, I enjoy helping the small businesses in Hoboken get the word out. Two, I get great satisfaction seeing the pride that Jimmy (the owner) has in what he feels are exciting new products. Three, J&D has fantastic prices on their wines, which is considered beneficial to residents, and finally (I just love their pizza!)

Today the wine tasting will include:

  • Paso Creek X-Ordinary 2005 Cabernet ($13.99)
  • Zin 91 2006 Old Vine Zinfandel ($12.99)
  • Aero 2007 Malbec (special sale $8.99, two or more bottles $7.99 – 90pts Wine Enthusiast)
  • Borgo Conventi Collio 2008 Pinot Grigio ($13.99)
  • Clifford Bay 2009 Awatere Valley Sauvignon Blanc ($9.77)

Additionally, their new products for tasting include: Assorted cheeses from Wisconsin, Flavored Pistachios from Fiddyment Farms in California (I tried the Onion Garlic flavor – excellent!), and East Shore specialty mustards and pretzels – also from Wisconsin. Great accoutrements for any party or gathering!

Lastly – Jimmy will be debuting something he’s been working on – new PIZZA WRAPS. Mozzarella with sauce, Soppressata or Pepperoni! Be sure to taste and give constructive feedback. He could be on to the next big food trend!

Swing by and say hello to a great Hoboken business!

4/9/2010 Update:

A quick photo update, reminder to try their pizza – and an event TODAY!

J&D Salsa and Wine tasting from 3:30 -7:30pm
Still not acclimated to the warm weather yet – I became a bit dehydrated and hungry after a seven mile walk around the mile square yesterday. Luckily I stepped into J&D Provisions (10 Paterson Ave.) for a beverage and slice of their amazing pizza (seriously incredible crust!)

I found out that they’re now expanding their wine selection – and have a few new products for sale. Sarris Candies and Chocolates (which they’re proud to say were the “Snack of the Day” on Rachel Ray), genuine Vermont Pure Maple Syrup – and D.L. Jardine’s salsas, spices and sauces. In fact the owner told me that they’re having a “Salsa and Wine Tasting” TODAY from 3:30pm to 7:30pm – featuring those very salsas (Wine still TBD).

So why not swing by and say hello to a long time Hoboken merchant – and please try their pizza.

4/7/2009 Update:

Did you know?

Well over a decade ago, I used to be a regular customer over at J&D Provisions (10 Paterson Ave.) Since I lived around the corner, it was a convenient spot to pick up daily essentials & beverages, etc. Now that I’m over 1.6 miles away (by foot) – it’s not much of a destination for me anymore.

One of the owners contacted me the other day – and wanted to be listed in the beer/wine/liquor categories here on Hoboken411. I swung by to take a look.

For one thing – they have a very decent supply of wine, liquor and beer – and surprisingly reasonable prices (J&D Website). Just by spot checking, they probably beat most – if not all other places in town (besides maybe the supermarkets when beer is on sale..) They offer free delivery – and discounted prices without needed to buy in volume. Now that the weather is getting warmer – stretch your legs and check ’em out!

But wait – the pizza hits a home run!

j-and-d-provisions-hoboken-pizza.jpgAnother good deal is their pizza – which took me by surprise. Delicious plain slices are always available, and apparently I’m not the only one that knows this. During the 10 minutes I was there, about 5 people came in and took a slice or two to go. For $2.25 per, you get a very cheesy and saucy slice – with a fluffy, yet substantial crust. I want to say “juicy,” but that doesn’t sound right for pizza. Keep in mind the sauce is a bit on the sweet side, in case you were wondering.

They don’t deliver the pizza (yet) – so I recommend that you swing downtown one day and see for yourself. I’d love to hear what others think.

First off, thanks for the great write up. I have been following this blog for a long time, and never thought I would see coverage on my family’s place. I actually had no idea that someone reached out to you.

Thanks everyone for the great comments!

For the record, I don’t work there. I just finished college and my career has been keeping me very busy, but it is family owned and operated.

If you really eat J&D egg sandwiches 365 days a year, I highly recommend getting your cholesterol levels checked!

Skywalker, who’s J&W? Great typing! Sounds like you can’t believe someone can really enjoy a place enough to go there for years. How sad you’ve never found such a place of your own. No I don’t work there, but I don’t need to just to have a nice comment about the place. I hope you don’t think all the people who had something kind to say all work there too! You sound alittle paranoid! 🙄

By the way, seisan, are you a representative of J&W? Just wondering, as your post is a little effusive in its praise of this place.

You really have eaten there “every morning for years”?

J&W really has “the biggest and most delicious egg sandwiches ever”?
