Hoboken Sliders Week – Day 3
[This week, the featured story topic is “Sliders” (mini hamburgers)… But if you’re a bitter food snob – and get hysterically angry that millions of people can enjoy practically anything in life – then skip this story (for your health).]
Liberty Bar and Stacks Pancake House
At the Liberty Bar, sliders are called “mini burgers.” These actually already come with cheese, pickle, and sauteed onion on top. The prices are reasonable considering these extras: it’s $6 for two sliders and $12 for four sliders. The fries that accompany both size orders are excellent (at the top of my list in Hoboken), and the extras add a nice flavor to each bite. As for size, these sliders are medium to large sized; though they can be ordered as an “appetizer” four would be more than enough for a full meal. The downside? The buns looked so tasty I couldn’t wait to bite into them, but they were definitely not as spongy as I had hoped. It seems that sometimes the simplest “fast food-type” buns work out best for these little slider burgers (and also re-heat better). It may not look as pretty, but taste is the object here!
I reviewed Stacks back a few months ago and have been generally content with the food, service and value at Hoboken’s latest eatery. And I’ve sampled the sliders more than once, and think that the six burgers and fries for $8 is by far the most for your money in Hoboken. I’m a big fan of cheese on my mini-burgers, so be sure double check your order, because I believe they come default without cheese. Otherwise, they’re still you best 24 hour place for sliders on Friday and Saturday nights!
