Are Bumper Protectors worth it?

2/25/2010:

For vanity or to save money?

You can’t walk a block in Hoboken without seeing some iteration of these rear bumper protectors. Whether it’s the Bumper Badger, Bumper Bully or any other brand – there’s certainly a market for them in the Mile Square.

Now, to me – it seems like a pain in the neck to have to fuddle with this (unattractive) slab of rubber each and every time I arrive and leave my vehicle. And I wonder do the scratches end up costing you money? I’d suspect with a lease, it’d be considered just normal wear and tear, no? Is it worth the time and effort, or do you do it just to keep your shiny new car perfect?

Do you have rear bumper protection for your car?

i drive an SUV with a trailer hitch on the back. You can buy a metal “Hitch Step” that goes in the receiver when you aren’t towing anything. It makes a PERFECT ‘hit me and you’ll regret it’ accessory for parallel parking 🙂

it’s definitely a good way to protect your paint. hoboken parkers are going to bump into your bumper whether you have this on it or not, and scratches suck. if scratches don’t bother you, then it’s not worth it.

Better off getting the NYC taxi bumpers. The bumper buddy makes bad parkers feel ok about using someone else’s bumper as a guide.

The bumper buddies give a-holes the ability to back into your car since they don’t know how to park. My license plate EZ pass was broken that way.

12 years after bringing a pristine rear bumper to Hoboken, it has more scratch than paint.

The technical term is “bumper rash.”
