Broken Glass and Hoboken Pride

Hoboken Photo of the Day – 2/8/2010

Don’t know about you guys, but myself and countless people I’ve personally spoken with – have noticed a sudden increase in the amount of BROKEN GLASS on Hoboken sidewalks. Not just one isolated area, but all over town.

And even Hoboken411 Mascot Oscar has suffered, slicing the pads on one of his paws WIDE OPEN last week. Now he’s limping around like a sad puppy. (don’t worry, I cleaned it out, tweezed the glass, ointment, etc. – just takes a while to heal)

  • Why aren’t the shards of sharp glass cleaned up immediately?
  • Who’s responsible? Garbage collectors? Drunk idiots? Everyone?
  • Where are the Hoboken sidewalk sweepers? Budget cuts?
  • What about property owners? Do they not give a crap?
  • Even if they’re on vacation – what about their neighbors?
  • Does anyone care about their own sidewalks anymore?

Poor Oscar I hope he’s doing better. I noticied over the weekend. There was a store on Washington. I didn’t take notice of the business. It was beyond 6th. Their glass on their front door was broken.

i thought the sidewalk sweepers only do gutters or else businesses on washington street?
sidewalks are the responsibility of the property owner. glass, cracks, snow and all.

It’s out of control back along 7th by the Monroe Center. That block has always been a trash, condom, chicken bone dumping ground, but the entire sidewalk is covered in an array of broken glass…no dogwalks there.

* Why aren’t the shards of sharp glass cleaned up immediately?

Because this requires money and the town has no money

* Who’s responsible? Garbage collectors? Drunk idiots? Everyone?

The town is, if I recall correctly the Mayor got her bike stolen because she didn’t buy a $4 lock? If you can’t afford a lock, then good luck finding coins in the couce for a sidewalk cleaner

* Where are the Hoboken sidewalk sweepers? Budget cuts?
They’re all asleep, we all saw the pictures last week

* What about property owners? Do they not give a crap?
I can not speak for others however most property owners “assume” the town will do it

* Even if they’re on vacation – what about their neighbors?
If my neighbor makes a mess, it is his business not mine.

* Does anyone care about their own sidewalks anymore?
I doubt it. I see the local business people clearing the sidewalks in the snow and sweeping in the summer, then they place out signs to attract business and then they are told they can’t place A frame signs outside. Sort of stinks I think. If the business owner cleans the sidewalk they should be granted an OK to advertise business
