Hoboken student excels at Model Congress!

2/6/2010:

Some good news out of the Hoboken Public School System…

Jordan is excellent!

Jordan DeJesus Hoboken NJ Harvard Model Congress“Hoboken High School senior Jordan DeJesus won a national Excellence Award at the 2010 Harvard Model Congress in San Francisco this January. DeJesus, along with eleven members of the Hoboken High School team, portrayed members of the United States government. In his role as Senator Harry Reed (R), DeJesus debated and drafted legislation in the Senate and Environment and Public Works Committee.

The American government simulation is entirely organized and run by Harvard University students whose aim is to encourage high school students to get involved in their communities and the political process.

On their morning off, students explored the city of San Francisco and traveled to the Stanford University campus. Students also met up with Hoboken High School alumnae and former HMC member, Yomaira Figueroa, who is presently working on her PhD at the University of California Berkeley.”

Congratulations to Jordan and to the rest of the students. Nice to see this program is still going strong.

I am just curious. When did the HMC move to San Francisco? I participated in this program in ’97 and ’98. It was held in Boston at that time. Great city, even for a Yankee fan, but California would have been an awesome experience. Was there a reason for the move?

Congratulations Jordan from Micheal’s mom. And a special thanks to Ms. Grygiel – who expects the best from all her students. So glad our young people had this opportunity.
