Oscar visits Muller Insurance

2/2/2010:

I’ve received quite a few reader requests lately for more “Hoboken411 Mascot Oscar updates” – and today I’ll share our real world dilemma…

Oscar is seeking the best coverage

As my loving dog Oscar (and the best Hoboken Mascot God ever created) gets older – he’s wising up. He understands that the world has clear and present dangers, and he wants to be sure he (and yours truly) are sufficiently protected. With sharp grooming instruments, unknown mad-dogs at the park – and even scary sidewalk hazards – he dragged me into Muller Insurance (Hoboken’s most well known insurance provider at 930 Washington Street).

He spoke with Roger Muller and his (single) sister Erika – as well as the great staff at Muller. But they couldn’t get over his cuteness – and didn’t take his request for good insurance coverage seriously! Treats, googly baby talk, and adoration took precedence over serious business matters!

Time ran short – and we’ll have to re-schedule our appointment.

But what insurance do you suggest for your dog?

I use VPI and am quite pleased with it. The idea behind pet insurance is not to pay all of your regular vet bills. Pet insurance is for when your pet eats a bottle cap and the surgery to remove it is $3000+.
I turned in a year’s worth of regular vet bills all at the same time and was reimbursed over $200.

Looks like Oscar has a bone to pick with his agent. Hopefully not barking up the wrong tree here. I bet I’m not the only one who considered putting my pets down as dependents on my work health insurance plan. If only…

We use VPI for our dog…its been really great as he’s into everything! The only complaint I have is that even with the Superior Plan, they put an annual limit on reimbursements for vaccinations, which are pretty expensive! In a given year you’ll probably spend up to $400 (give or take) on vaccines and I think they only reimburse you up to $30 a year…

Agreed, it doesn’t cover too much of what’s reuired, but I have the plan that covers more preventative stuff for the puppy (I forget which one it is) and as he gets older I will switch to the Superior.

One thing I will say about VPI is that in this day of terrible customer service, I never waited on hold for more than a second and every rep who answered was friendly, helpful and based in the USA, speaking English as a primary language. Also, they sent me a nice sympathy card when I submitted the claim for putting my dog to sleep AND they automatically stopped the coverage so I wouldn’t keep getting billed.

Has Erika’s sales volume gone up 342% since this post?

I have had good experiences with VPI and it allowed me to put my late dog through chemo (just be careful to wait too long to add a cancer rider, I think it is 8 for dogs). I have heard the SPCA insurance is terrible, and there is another one they have brochures for at Hoboken Unleashed.

As for me, I will have to see what Erika with a K recommends!

I can recommend that if you take Erika out don’t show up in an Astro Van

Erika is a beautiful lady and a great athlete-plays ice hockey.
Both Erika and her brother are nice people and very professional.
I would use them if I didn’t get my insurance through the military

I’d be more inclined to try out Muller Insurance if Mr. Mullers picture on his insurance adds was changed. It creeps me out daily and any lady I walk out of my parking deck with is creeped out too… no, she’s not just creeped out by me… it’s the Muller face.

Seriously though… if he can get me cheaper insurance (renters, car, umbrella, cat and jealous fanbois) I’d sign up.
