Since nobody else seems to have picked up on this yet – from the JJ today:

Mishap at robotic garage damages car
HOBOKEN – The robotic garage is malfunctioning – again.
The automated garage, at 916 Garden St., which was once plagued with problems, trapped and damaged a silver Nissan on Monday morning

On Monday, a conveyor and elevator system retrieved the car from its parking spot to be brought to its owner, but just as the car was being delivered, a sensor incorrectly read that the car had been driven off the pallet, said Hoboken Parking Director John Corea.

Corea said he was not sure if the Hoboken Parking Utility is going to pay for the damage.
“We’ve had tons of problems in the past, dropping cars, ripping doors and windows off,” said Corea.

So hang on. We just paid Corea’s buddies at Unitronics millions to ensure that this never happens again, and guess what – it does. So once again, a couple million dollars poorer, we still know we have an unreliable facility.

It would seem that sensing whether the vehicle has been driven away yet or not would be one of the most basic interlocks in the logic and control system – yet the “experts” at Unitronics couldn’t even get that basic feature to work right?!?

I like the part about Corea not knowing whether or not the HPU was going to pay for the damages – I hope the only other alternative is that the City of Hoboken is going to pursue a claim against the Contractor, and hopefully for more than just the damage to this car – for failure to deliver a reliable system.

How about if Corea’s classic Vette was the one that got damaged? You can be sure as hell it’d already be paid in full.

I was in the garage for the first few years it was open, when it works it is a great spot to be in.
