Disruption at HHS Basketball Game

1/7/2010:

School rivalries?

Anytime there’s a varsity basketball game at the Hoboken High School – HPD has to be on scene to make sure the crowd behaves orderly…

Overheard moments ago on the Hoboken411 Live Police and Fire Action Channel – some fights and other mob-like congregating during tonight’s game (not sure who they’re playing) and one HPD officer requested heavy backup.

It sounded like it was handled quickly – but another fight was reported at 455 9th Street – towards the Light Rail, etc… Police are monitoring the area now, and have been advised they have plenty of backup if necessary.

Damn, it’s just a game, folks!

It was actually kids from Jersey City that came in and had problems with Memorial kids. The Hoboken kids were not involved at all.

Our kids are not always the problem.

I was at the game and we were all caught off guard by this. This happened not in the game but outside the school during half-time, in front of parents and little kids.

Terrible. But, I have to commend our students for staying out of it and letting the HPD and the teachers do there jobs and catch and detain these JC riff-raff.

Looks like Hoboken was playing Memorial High School from West New York, which based on proximity, must be a close rival.

They’ve got spirit, yes they do, they’ve got sprit…something, something.

Glad the Hoboken PD was there to break it up. Who was the visiting team? Fans of the visitors are more likely to start trouble in someone else’s house.

When I went to the old high school there was a saying” if you can’t beat them on the court we can beat them in the parking lot”

LMAO. That-a-boy!
I can just picture sunnybrook sitting in the parking lot saying “let’s cool down with a bottle of mineral water and talk things over rationally.
