Can you beat a Hoboken parking ticket?
Let’s welcome new Hoboken resident (and Hoboken411 reader) Brian – and give him some advice on the infamous Hoboken “ambiguous parking laws!”
Hoboken Parking summonses make no sense!
“I recently moved to Hoboken a few months ago and have since discovered your site, very good and a great resource for the community, thank you!
I received one of the infamous parking tickets you have been debating about a few weeks ago. I was cited for parking within 25 ft of a crosswalk. I was not in the crosswalk, I was close, but there was no yellow on the curb where I parked.
Notice that there is no yellow paint and the sign actually shows an arrow depicting that you can park on either side of it. The summons that I got is described as parking “25 feet within Crosswalk”. I took out my measuring tape tonight and the sign ends up being exactly 25 feet from the crosswalk. I did not know that this was a law in NJ. I am sure it is a law, however, the sign is very misleading. It should have an arrow pointing only west or away from the crosswalk. That, along with no yellow paint, a Jeep parked on the east side of the sign and driving around for 20 minutes looking for a spot led to me decide to park there. I wasn’t sure if I would fit without being in the crosswalk, but I have a small car, and did end up fitting without obstructing the walkway. To add to my frustration, I feel that I was selectively ticketed as the Jeep that was also parked within 25′ of the crosswalk did not get a ticket.
I was wondering if you had heard of anyone that was able to fight these tickets and win?”
What advice can YOU give Brian?
