Hoboken Breakfast Nuggets 1/5/2010
Brrrr! Don’t you love the winter in Hoboken?
“Our beds are burning!”
The Hoboken Fire Department had a minor fire to deal with last night (if you followed me on Twitter, you would have known about it already!)
At around 12:45am, in an apartment above Zafra (301 Willow) – HFD responded to a “still alarm of fire.” Upon investigation, they found that a bed was on fire. A couple water cannons later, the fire was quickly extinguished. And you think it’s a bad thing they sit around in between emergencies? Didn’t think so!
More money for the unemployed in NJ!
A whopping $16 bucks a week!
But in yet another “hidden tax” effective starting in July 2010 – you’ll now have to contribute between $300 and $1,100 more per year for Unemployment Insurance.
For those just making even a moderate salary – would have to be unemployed for nearly 69 weeks – in order to get that extra $1,100 back.
The maximum length you can receive unemployment benefits is 99 weeks (26 from the state, 73 from the Fed.) Oh – and don’t believe those unemployment figures either – they stop counting you once your benefits run out (like several folks I know!)
Boy, it sure is cold around the world!
Hmmm – we’re setting some cold weather and snow records around the globe! Haha!
- Like Miami is having the coldest winter in a decade…
- And it was so cold in NJ – that ice build-up shut a nuclear power plant down!
- Seoul, Korea had the biggest snowfall in 70 years!
- And Beijing too, with their biggest snowfall in 40 years!
- And finally, Vermont recorded their biggest single snow event EVER!
BUST OUT THE SUNSCREEN!!
HAVE A SUPER DUPER DAY EVERYONE!!!
