Hoboken411 reader Mike saw this cool retro NYC video from the 70’s, and spotted a Hoboken reference!

What was that sign?

“Merry Christmas, 411! came across this old channel 5 (pre-Fox) WNEW-TV news intro from 1977. In the very beginning at around the 2-3 second mark, (you have to pause it) you can read letters from behind that say “Hoboken Welcomes ……..” and I can’t make out what the bottom letters spell out, maybe someone will remember this sign and where in town it was and what it said?”

So what does Hoboken Welcome today?

Back in the 60’s and 70’s – Hoboken was a thriving industrial city, looking to attract new businesses with it’s close proximity to NYC – and cheaper rents!

So it makes sense that the sign read “Hoboken Welcomes Industry – Come on Over!”

However, with the industry gone, artists on the ropes, and the economy in the tank – what would the sign read if it were there today?
