December
12/28/2009:
How many of you enjoy seeing musical acts perform at Maxwell’s (11th and Washington)? Are you a hard-core regular? Or have never seen one?
Either way, here’s a quick overview of what’s playing the last few days of 2009:
Show lineup:
Tonight, Monday, December 28th:
Check out God Loves A Challenge, Waking Lights, and Night Fevers starting at 8pm – $12 online, $14 at the door.
Steel Rain is apparently a pretty popular band – and their songs have been heard over 1.3 million times on MySpace alone. Show starts at 9pm and costs $13 online, and $15 at the door.
I never heard of them, but have included one of their more popular songs called “Firecracker” for you to preview:
Wednesday, December 30th:
Steel Train plays again, along with Casey Crescenzo (of The Dear Hunter) – click to see video.
9pm – $13 online, $15 at the door.
Thursday, December 31st: New Year’s Eve
Maxwell’s big end of year bash features Roky Erickson with Muck & The Mires at 10pm and commands a whopping $35 (online)
Here’s a sample of Roky Erickson. Kinda cool!
Swingin’ Neckbreakers on Jan. 1st
And for those that followed the Swingin’ Neckbreakers in their prime – you’ll want to see them plus a couple other acts on Friday, January 1st at 9pm. $15 online.

I saw a few bands at Maxwell’s that are now pretty big. Saw Built to Spill there and it was amazing. Not sure if I saw the Strokes there, it might have been in city but wherever it was 10 people showed up.

I’m trying to go as often as I can. This place (plus Christine Santelli, bless her soul) is one of few things that provides Hoboken with any culture at all. Saw some amazing shows over the years. I don’t think I would have ever considered moving here if it hadn’t been for the Maxwell’s place and Christine @ Scotland Yard.
Among my favorite recent gigs: Mark Eitzel, Dresden Dolls (not that recent I guess, but fantastic), Final Fantasy, Erin McKeown…
