Downtown Snow Scenes, Accidents, etc…

12/20/2009:

What a nice email entry for this snowy and incident-filled night!

Glad I wasn’t the only one with the big Kahounas to brave the brutal winter weather conditions!

But Hoboken411 reader Jimmy Mac sets the downtown snow scene in words and pictures:

Snow causes scene in Hoboken!

“Hey Hoboken411! Thanks for being there 24/7 for Hoboken!

I got hungry and figured it would take three days to get a pizza delivered in a blizzard, so I bundled up to search for grub! First I walked over to Fillippo’s on First, and it was closed!

Instead of delicious pizza I got to see the emergency response to a two-car collision at First and Willow. Couldn’t tell who was to blame. A little car hit a Lincoln. Ouch! Hoboken’s finest were on the scene fast. Looks like they have OEM SUV’s on patrol tonight. Smart! The roads are a mess and the wind is killer. Plenty of drunk idiots walking in front of moving cars along pub alley. Hey genius! The car can’t stop in the snow! Don’t walk in front of it!

OK, now I’m at Washington Street. Imposto’s is open, but I’m not THAT desperate yet. Keep looking.

What about that new pizza place where Quizno’s used to be? (411: Marisa’s) Ugh. Also closed!

OK, I’ve come this far with camera in hand so I might as well go down to the waterfront to snap some pics. Hmmm… can’t even see the city in this snow, so how about some shots of the Clock Tower? Cool! Alright, still hungry. Even in a blizzard the Saturday night crowd outside of Lana Lounge is loud and obnoxious. Glad I don’t live next to that! OK, is Hoboken Pizza open? YES! Can I get a slice buddy? Excellent! Sweet crust and tangy sauce balanced with the right amount of cheese. Do I need anything at CVS Pharmacy while I’m out? Nah, it can wait. Homeward bound.

Uh-oh, looks like somebody lost their scarf. Ahhh, home sweet Hoboken!”

I’ll have to agree with Jimmy Mac – stumbling home in a cold, blustery and overall dreary city with no real “food pulse” really blows. Which is why Hoboken411 advocates a very good frozen food stockpile. Head over to the Target in Jersey City to get some tasty frozen pizzas and White Castle burgers to put in your “Hoboken Blizzard” reserves! You’ll thank me later!

The story kind of reminds me of the song Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses. It just needs a zippy chorus to be complete. I feel bad for the people involved in that accident. Hope nobody was hurt. What strikes me about Hoboken snowstorms is how the wind blows huge drifts in some spots and keeps snow from ever accumulating in others. Love it!

A friend of mine who drives a cab on the weekends tells me Indian Way shut down for the night because the streets are impassable. Have you heard about this, 411?
