2/27/2010 Update:
More helping hands…
Rory and even Hoboken411 reader Christina helped dig out a few elderly folks yesterday once again (no, the people weren’t buried – just their cars…) Good community help!
12/19/2009:
With the impending Winter Storm we’re in store to get today, one Hoboken411 reader and local merchant is offering volunteer assistance to those in need!
That’s the holiday spirit!
Helping the elderly with tough winter tasks
Rory, who owns Midtown Authentic, the new handbag and accessory consignment store at 508 5th Street, is banding together with some friends and colleagues to shovel snow for the elderly or disabled. If you need help, or know someone that does, please email him at sales@midtownauthentic.com and he’ll make arrangements. Also, if this gets to be a overwhelming task, they’d like to know if anyone wants to join them in helping the community, just let them know!
Rory adds: “This is not a joke, and if anyone is just lazy and doesn’t want to do it themselves, don’t email us. It’s solely for those who are incapable. It’s a 100% free community service.”
Way to reach out to the community, Rory! Big hat tip!

If you do not mind, a top of the line shovel itself would be practical instead of money. No need for a bow though, something all around grade A would be appreciated sir. You can drop off at the shop anytime, I am always there. Thanks plywood, happy holidays

Here’s some more shots of Rory’s work – before/after he helped Cindy with her Camry – and despite having “Shovel issues” – managed to keep working into the night.
Good work – (and workout!)

I was just skimming over Hoboken 411 on Saturday night. I wanted to tell you how nice of you this was. I was signed off on my home computer. I didn’t feel like logging in. I’ll just tell you now. That was a very nice thing that you did.

Gee thanks Pawz
Next time we get hit I ‘ll ask 411 to repost the casting calls for helpers. I do want to say that I received an email from a reader named Beth. I responded to her late and she was busy to help but she showed an interest to help. So hats off to her for responding and my buddy Pat who helped out. Team effort it was with 411 and all who helped, so lets thanks everyone not just me, thanks

I was just outside clearing the snow off my car. Then all of a sudden a guy and a girl approached me asking “you want us to shovel you out – free of charge?”. And when I asked them why do they want to do it, he said “because it feels good”. They shoveled me out and they’re such great people. They spent their day shoveling people out today. Their good heartedness is making we want to do the same thing after the next big snow. Thank you again!
