HUMC a thing of the past? (Updated)

12/14/2009 Update:

Hospital gone, but building still there (and more!)

Hoboken411 reader Amy decided to look a little deeper into last week’s retro flashback about area hospitals – and found that the “North Hudson Hospital” building isn’t gone, but still there, and larger that ever! To me, it seems like the hospital might have expanded in it’s glory days? (i.e., new wings?) – either that or some developer figured out a way to maximize profits while adhering to “Historical Preservation” guidelines. Also – this is Union City, not Weehawken!

Big development surrounds historic building, though…

I found this a bit interesting – the (only) eight-story monstrosity going up across the street, is run by the well-know Hoboken entity Applied Housing.

Hey, how did Union City get 8-story limitations on their new projects?

12/10/2009:

Will the hospital eventually be history?

One Hoboken411 reader, who admires images of the past – like this one of the North Hudson Hospital in Weehawken from the early 1900’s – wonders if the Hoboken University Medical Center (HUMC) will suffer the same fate? “In 50 years, we’ll see relics of HUMC like this: GONE!”

The future fate of the hospital is:

I await the moment in which the board or city will begin to set standards which will compel this ceo to behave as one, oh but wait he’s never been a ceo before. Terrible mistake to leave this saved hospital, still not fully out of danger, in the hands of someone who’s intentions although seemingly honest, has nothing to loose for at least two more years (based on contract). The loyal employees of this hospital have recently received information that informs them of an unavoidable 10% salary reduction as of January ’10 with the assurance that if their job performance remains “satisfactory” no need to worry about loosing their position next year. This coming from a ceo who seems completely unsure in which direction he is going, one day the assurance of no lay-offs and another with the threat of closing. HobokenUMC’s saga continues…

When I see pictures of north hudson hosp. I lmao, it was to put it mildly, shitty. When I first got married we lived in weehawken and my wife got food poison and we went there, the dipshit hack dr. didn’t speak english we had to use sign language to get our message across. He was getting ready to pull some teeth, thank goodness we ran out and still can laugh about it. Old st scarys wasn’t much better.

The garage sale is still a fiasco…costing us over $100K per month and to my knowledge, the rather little money that the city will get is still being held up by legal actions. There has still been no decision as to any new location or other option. The hospital is a grave issue, the possible closing of it will cause loss of health services, loss of local jobs and financial woes to the taxpayer,

Wiskey tango foxtrot echo charlie yuma whatever your name is, please try to condense your responses. The repeated replies are starting to spam the boards and it makes reading the posts hard to read. I know you are new here and keeping a response to 1 post makes it easier for us to navigate the site. Thank you
