Wet weather and flood watch!

12/9/2009:

Hope it doesn’t flood; Morning commute to suck

A storm that has punished much of the country will be swinging by to our north tonight – bringing brisk winds and a solid 12 hours of moderate rain.

hoboken-wet-weather-december-9-2009

Until tomorrow afternoon, a flash flood watch is in effect:
THE PERIOD OF HEAVIEST RAIN MAY COINCIDE WITH THE MORNING COMMUTE… AND MAY FALL IN A RELATIVELY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THIS MAY RESULTING IN FLOODING OF URBAN… SMALL STREAMS AND OTHER POOR DRAINAGE AND LOW LYING AREAS.

As well as a “wind advisory”:
EASTERLY WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE TO 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 45 MPH LATE TONIGHT… CONTINUING INTO EARLY WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. THE STRONGEST WINDS ARE EXPECTED BETWEEN 7 AM AND NOON ON WEDNESDAY. WINDS WILL DIMINISH IN THE AFTERNOON AS A WARM FRONT WORKS OVER THE REGION.

When will the big snow come to Hoboken? Next week? Next year?

Anyone that took the bus today knew that it was a NIGHTMARE. One request for Hoboken drivers on days like today: If not on normal days, then on crappy weather days, If a pedestrian makes eye contact with you coming down the block, just stop!!! It may not be a block where you have a stop sign, but I guarantee you are more comfortable in your dry heated car than I am trying to navigate downpours, puddles, and a nonstop flow of traffic. I am taking the care to pause and look for traffic (not just walking without breaking stride), so you can do what you should legally do, and yield. Just have a heart and try not to be a d-bag. Thanks!

I agree.

I would like to thank the driver of a van who let me cross even though I was not trying to at that very second (he clearly had the right of way; I was standing on the corner). He didn’t have to do that…it was a small gesture but I appreciated it very much.

This is in contrast to the driver of an Audi coupe of some sort who must have been going 60 mph on 15th street yesterday. Pedestrians literally had to scramble out of the crosswalk even though they had begun to cross the street before he was even in sight. Drivers like that should just get their cars impounded.

I just got back from Vegas last night and it’s cold there too…the snow levels are pretty low in the mountains west and north of town.
