Carlo’s City Hall Bake Shop
Carlos will be on the Food Network tonight at 10pm in a cake contest. See the website for other times it’s on.
Celebration Cakes
Ten chefs, all strangers, pair up in five teams of two. For the first part of the competition, they work separately. Then, in the final two hours, the teams get to work together. Their challenge: to come up with a cake that’s worthy of $10,000. Only there’s a twist…and it’s a big one. The competitors won’t find out until minutes before the competition WHO their partners are and WHAT the theme is. This is a competition that tests creativity and cooperation, all under a ticking clock.
More baked goods. Tasty though.

You’d be surprised how long those things keep, chocolate covered or otherwise.

Anyone know where you can get a not-retardedly-priced pound cake in town? Or will I have to make my own?

Hee-hee. I just remembered a story an elderly Italian neighbor of mine shared with me about Carlo’s. She was picking up a birthday cake that was already paid for. At the counter, she turned around for a minute or so to talk to someone and– BAM– the cake disappeared!
When my neighbor asked the women behind the counter about it, they said that they gave it to her husband. “I don’t have a husband”, she said. “I came in alone!”
They gave her birthday cake to a random dude in a blue suit. And even after arguing about it for thirty minutes, I don’t think that they gave my neighbor her money back!

There is a help wanted sign in the window here. Since all the employees are not paid to be part of the show they all quit. If you are without a job and want your 15 sec, here is your chance folks, and while Buddy gets $81,585 per episode (Buddy alone gets this) I am sure you can work out a deal for all the free cookies you want

Hey if anyone feels like punching someone, I saw an article that says Snooki from Joisy Shore will be at Carlo’s sometime tomorrow.
Just kidding, don’t punch Snooki, she seems nice enough, even if she’s a little tacky.

I saw a uniformed police officer ushering crowds across the intersection of Newark + Washington (CVS corner) now……I hope Carlo’s is paying for that. And not taxpayers.

I agree with you. I hope Carlo’s is paying for the uniformed police officer and not our tax dollars. I really didn’t know they were still using uniformed police officers. I went there about two summers ago in August. I went at lunchtime with a co-worker. She has triplets. It was their 17th birthday. Her triplets love watching The Cake Boss. She figured it would be a nice surprise to get their birthday cake from Carlo’s. She sat outside in the car. I went inside to get their cake. There was a uniformed police officer controlling the line inside. I just could not believe it.

His sisters are so mean and nasty and they’ve been that way for years. I say, “thank you so much, have a great day” and they won’t even give you eye contact or respond.
They’ve been that way for many, many years. It’s a shame that their attitude has no consequences.
And it looks as though they train the high school girls they hire to be the same way.

all the power to the carlos bussiness, one topic on the street was an indiviual wanted to get together with buddy to do an autism benefit last year he said no(but has said yes to people with deeper pockets),buddy wasnt entitled to say yes but he could have done something, fame and money go to peoples head.and a response to a letter in the reporter last week it has been a long time since they all worked that hard

Talk on the streets is usually cheap. Sort of like whispering in the ear of an individual on a long line of people and getting something entirely absurd at the end of the line. I’d like to hear why Buddy declined from the “individual” who made the request. Usually these benefits require a time and place like most of the events in town. Did it occur to you that Buddy (now a celebrity besides a baker) may have declined due to other commitments or contracts? Or did he flatly refuse because he doesn’t do benefits. Why take “cheap” shots at the guy if this “so called” individual can’t make a comment as to why. Then I’ll have a reason for either calling Buddy an asshole or saying I understand. I just refuse to put him down because I don’t shop there, or because he’s made a great success of his business, and continues to thrive with all the negative comments by locals, who for some stupid reason or other, think they will have an impact on the long lines outside his store.

it is a family that has been in hoboken a long time and a group who went to carlos often.i believe it had to do with making 2 cakes at cost,no appearence or using carlos or the cake boss name to sell anything.thats why i didnt believe it when i was told that he said no. could have been done.one of his lesser chefs could have done it.to each his own i guess

Hard to believe because before Buddy became Cake Boss,
promoting donations for children with health issues
was a regular event at the shop. Always a can or card you could contribute to.
Crowds, Big inconvience, Rising prices, Not happy,
but Fame Changes things, & IMPO one thing that doesn’t
change is the Fact that you “Can’t Please Everyone!”
God Bless Them for their hard work, & I hope like everything else
it will eventually settle down..

Enough with the three hour lines for mediocre pastry already! Are they lacing the cakes with crack or something? I don’t get it! This is all over a show on a basic cable station?
