Hoboken the Beautiful, 16 Paintings by Bill Curran
A reception for artist Bill Curran is planned for Tuesday, December 1st, 2009 from 5 to 8 pm. Hoboken City Hall, Hoboken, 94 Washington Street, second floor display cabinets. All are welcome and the event is free. The exhibit runs through December 31st, 2009
The show entitled, Hoboken the Beautiful, showcases sixteen oil on canvas paintings. Eight works focus on the city as subject matter and eight are of the artist backyard from his apartment window.
Mr. Curran moved to Hoboken twenty six years ago. Bill says he has seen many changes, but one thing that hasn’t changed is the beauty around town. There is so much to see and paint. The green grass at city hall, trees at Pier A, colorful potted mums and tulips in the spring, are all inspiring.
Another place of inspiration for him is the backyard from his window. One of the first paintings Bill did of the backyard was with snow that had just fallen and covered an entire roof. This past winter, a picnic table was left out in the garden and this resulted in two of the paintings on view. Clothes on the line and cats out back all call for Bill’s attention.
Bill likes to complete a painting in one session. This can be as quick as half an hour. Some paintings are worked on several times. The Impressionist are his favorite painters.
Mr. Curran has been painting for 30 years. This past summer he had his second exhibition at the Hoboken Historical Museum, entitled, A Passion for the River, Paintings and Pastels. Bill is available for private art classes and you can see more of his work at www.billcurran.net
City Hall is open Mon. thru Fri. from 9am to 9pm. To see the exhibit, use the Newark St. entrance and take elevator to the 2nd floor.
