I can't take anyone seriousy that invokes Al Gore or Obama.

Global warming is not happening. The earth goes in cycles of warming and cooling. Simple minded liberal pee brains can't understand simple logic. They base their opinions on feelings and what they think they have to say in order to feel better about themselves.

We should all be glad that their rule only lasted one year.

Obama? Can anyone say failure?!

Global warming may or may not be man made, but it is happening. People will profit off of it, and people will surely die from it as they already have.

Anyhow, I can't take anyone seriously that invokes Glen Beck, Keith Olberman, or Palin, and their brand or devisive hyperbole. Talk about profiting from the destruction of your country, these people do more damage than K street.

for anyone who just accepts climate "data" as fact, just take a look at what the recently hacked emails show - this is from cbs news - hardly a far right organization. it is long and technical, but i suggest reading it. http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/11/24/taking_liberties/entry5761180.shtml

megan mccardle summarizes the findings - and she BELIEVES IN MAN-MADE WARMING:

"it is very possible the CRU's main computer model may be, to put it bluntly, complete rubbish. The emails seem to describe a model which frequently breaks, and being constantly "tweaked" with manual interventions of dubious quality in order to make them fit the historical data. These stories suggest that the model, and the past manual interventions, are so poorly documented that CRU cannot now replicate its own past findings.

That is a big problem. The IPCC report, which is the most widely relied upon in policy circles, uses this model to estimate the costs of global warming. If those costs are unreliable, then any cost-benefit analysis is totally worthless.

Obviously, this also casts their reluctance to conform with FOI requests in a slightly different light.

That's not reason to abandon efforts to control our carbon emissions--as I say, they're still very likely to be problematic. But if the model turns out to be as bad as initial reports seem to imply, we should probably hold off on policy recommendations until we have a slightly better handle on the likely outcomes.

rather than debate you on the finer points, i strongly suggest you try and do some research from some sources on the other side. instead of just saying someone is an "idiot" - why not at least take a look at the differing opinions? for one example, take a look at statement ron paul entered into congressional debate where 30,000 american scientists from diff backgrounds signed a petition questioning anthropogenic warming, i.e., man-made warming.

but lets assume you are correct and there is a global warming crisis:

1) is it possible - i mean POSSIBLE - that there is warming but it is not caused by man? or to put it another way, is it possible that there are warming and cooling cycles or that it is caused by something else like sun spots

2) wouldn't it be more prudent to wait a few years to make sure we have it right before we decide on billions of dollars in new taxes and cap and trade legislation that would raise costs and hurt our economy? especially since when we are talking about a problem that is centuries in the making and will take centuries to allegedly see results - why do this NOW during a world-wide economic collapse?

In response to jazzeru who said:

i completely disagree. global warming is happening and it is a direct result of the global industrial explosion and overpopulation. why do you think the pentagon cites it as one of the critical national security threats in the future!?

we are the ONLY country in the world that disputes the science and the longer we go on denying it the worse off we're all going to be. global food shortages are coming, and of course it will impact poor developing nations first so we wont really feel it until its too late... see 2008, did you know there were food riots in 15 countries around the world??

as for glen beck i can't justify wasting another breath on this idiot so i'll just repeat this quote from someone far smarter than me:

“The increasingly blatant nature of the nonsense uttered with impunity in public discourse is chilling. Our democratic society is imperiled as much by this as any other single threat, regardless of whether the origins of the nonsense are religious fanaticism, simple ignorance or personal gain.”

How can we accept AGW when its followers demonstrate religious zealotry, high profile advocates such as Al Gore profit handsomely from it yet clearly don't otherwise act like it's any big deal, and the scientific community supporting it displays a breathtaking lack of integrity?

These are the people we should just believe? I should trust their preachings on the basis of what exactly?

Who knows maybe it is true but right now it has the strong smell of scam.

Just 1,000 years ago the Vikings grew grapes in Iceland, then the temperature became very cold for centuries.

In 150 years, the temperature has increased only 1 deg. F and the ocean has risen about 9 in.. The ocean has been rising since the end of the last ice age, and this will continue. The warming has been mostly in the winter months and in the high northern latitudes, away from the equator. For most of us, there is more benefit than harm. During the previous warm period between ice ages, there was no ice at the North Pole and the ocean was 15 ft. higher. CO2 has also been much higher during the past.
I guess the vikings were the cause of the higher CO2 levels.

I love the arrogance of the people that just state things that they think are facts. Much of the stuff out there is unproven and is used to scare people into changing their habits so the government can have more control over our lives. As for the US being the only country to deny the science, you are an idiot. Ever look over at China and India? They are doing more to pollute the air than the US ever has. Even so, all they are doing is making their populations sicker, not necessarily causing any warming. The earth goes through cycles. You will see, we are probably entering a prolonged cooling cycle. Most likely this is caused by a lack of sun spot activity which is at a low right now. I am all for having clean air and water, and treating the earth with respect, but most people have been duped by this pseudo science. All it is doing is making people like Al Gore rich, and making the government get involved in things it shouldn't be involved in.
