Dog Joggers?

Premium Dog Walking Services

Spotted this dog walking sign the other day…

Interesting it’s $3 more for a jog versus a walk – but like the “do you trust your dog walker?” post from last week – how would you know? Is this just a simple way to charge more than the “going rate” or is it a fair price? I’d think to chip away at other competing dog walkers – that’d you have to charge the same and offer more (especially in today’s economy, no?)

I have a high energy dog that loves to jog. I would gladly pay an extra $3 for him to run instead of walk if I couldn’t take him out myself for some reason. As for whether dogs should be jogging at all, there may be a few exceptions for age and breed, but in general – yes. If you watch off leash dogs move in an open space (not the tiny Hoboken dog parks, but in a large wooded area or field) they don’t walk. They run and sniff, run and sniff, and chase each other. If it were up to them, their daily exercise would not consist of a few 20-minute casual strolls at a human pace.

Any industry has abuses. Any unregulated industry will have unchecked abuses. Get-overs are attracted to all professions, and some percentage of all industries are dishonest in general, or dishonest according to our own unwritten criteria. Also, people get into jobs for one set of reasons, and inertia often keeps them in for a less noble set of reasons. Now, my take on world peace……….ah, maybe later.

In response to mooshu:
“It’s really too bad that there are dog walkers who don’t live up to their jobs. How can this be? I don’t get it. A lack of professionalism and interest in dogs while calling themselves dog walkers? Creatures who give back so much to humans? Seriously?”

I know some breeds of dogs need alot of exercise. I’m not sure about jogging. It always disturbs me. When I see a dog jogging with their human.

Anybody know a reliable dog musher? Now that we have bike lanes I think this is a real possibility…

I agree with you H411. If a person wants to be competitive. They have to charge the same and offer more. Although I don’t offer dogjogs. My regular dogwalks are $2.00 cheaper than this person’s regular dogwalk.
