Drunk smashes two cars on 4th St.

11/22/2009:
Hoboken411 reader James captured a couple pics of what is most likely wreckage left over from a drunk driving mishap last night…
Thank God we walk
“Saw this on the corner of 4th and Willow walking home from O’Nieal’s last night. Looks like someone sideswiped the first car and push it into the second car. Lovely!”

ok, s how many times do we need to say”have a drunk driving checkpoint” at all the city exits on weekend nights?
I realize this might be considered bad for business by the town cronies, but FFS, it’s the right thing to do.

It was pretty bad. Half of the rear bumper was in the middle of the street when I walked past it. Pretty ridiculous that this happened and the person was able to keep driving away when it was right across from the hospital!

You’re so right mcspacebar. I think it would help a little.
I think all of us who’ve lived here for a while have seen worse than this too. Why is it that the crimes of drinking get special non-treatment? It seems ridiculous that something as dangerous to everybody here can be so ignored.

That corner was ridiculous last night… I was driving the ambulance lights & sirens west on 4th and one car drove right past me down Willow then another was completely blocking the ambulance entrance while doing pickup dropoff.

Yes, it would be kind of fun to have community chosen punishments that were silly and shame-inducing. Nevertheless, we still need cops to be set up to catch these drunks in their cars to do this.
Some of my punishment thoughts:
- Have to pick up all the trash on Sinatra on Saturday nights while wearing a yellow fluorescent outfit that said WEEKEND WARRIOR on the back.
- Visit all the fraternity kids on Thursday nights at Stevens and recite poems about why drinking and driving is bad.

Don’t they have those DUI checkpoints sometimes?? I remember being stuck in one… What a great way to get revenue for the city while getting drunks off the road!! Why not have them every week Thursday though Saturday???

And why not start holding bars responsible for the drunks accidents?? They r technically not supposed to serve alcohol to visibly intoxicated persons!!!

They’ve had them around certain holidays, like July 4th and St. Patty’s day I know. Probably a few others too. I’ve been stuck in the one at 14th & Willow by the viaduct. The thing is, if you know where they are, it’s easy to avoid them.

It’s not like there are a lot of ways in and out of Hoboken.
it would be easy to blockade these routes on an irregular schedule so that the drunk offenders would never know when they would hit them upon trying to leave our mile sq. city while inebriated and dangerous.
An excellent deterrent to dangerous irresponsible people.

I was stuck in one on jersey ave under the overpass. That’s a good location. Add another one on the other side of town. Switch it up sometimes. The goal is not to catch everyone but to deter this behavior.

why is it assumed that these people are all drunk? i see plenty of accidents and bad drivers at all hours of the day. I was stopped at a red light on willow one day and a woman in a tahoe plowed into the rear of my car — broad daylight, and she was sober as a judge.

Going after the drunk drivers will also reduce the number of cars in town. It you’re going to drink, take the bus or train.

Yes!! Parking by my house is only bad Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights when the drunks come… But obviously, busting drunks will save lives too!!! I mean how dense do u have to be when u see someone driving out of Hoboken at 3 am not to realize that they r trashed??? What do the cops think they were doing?? Knitting???

So everyone is guilty until proven innocent now? Wow that Glen Beck sure is having an effect.

Stop reading the titles of articles posted on H411 as fact. I love this site but no where is there any proof that this accident or the one posted on h411 last week was caused by a drunk driver.

My guess is lots of these accidents are caused by commercial vehicles and taxis. Some are probably drunks, and some are probably just bad drivers who are not used to Hoboken’s narrow streets.
