Hoboken police, fire and ambulances are standing by on 2nd Street between Clinton and Grand streets due to a heavy natural gas odor. They found the gas leak – on the property of General Lumber (you remember that big inferno from 2007, right?)

Funny, or not funny – there is constantly a strong odor here, as well as the SW corner of 1st and Jefferson – informed PSE&G several times, but doesn’t seem they can solve the problem – or maybe don’t care – but any day of the week, you get that smell big-time, and it’s not from the homeless guy omiting smells of his dinner either.

FYI – residents allowed back to their homes. PSE&G on scene working on repairs. Hopefully it doesn’t blow up anytime tonight.

My wife walked by the site of the leak about 45 mins ago. According to her..the construction crew working on the Lumber Yard site were looking for the leak with a flashlight. Apparently their digging might be the cause.

It’s better than looking with a lit match.
