Wife's car got booted because the decal was on the side window. It was current. We had to pay, and then wait through six months of court date reschedules to finally get a refund.

Those guys can boot whomever they want.

As have multiple people I know. In fact, the notice that the City sends you states that you will be booted if you don't renew your decal.

 <div class="replied_to_style">Expired decal does not get a boot, it gets a notice to cure and a ticket. Then again do it again it may be a different story. The ordinance book for decals is very specific. If it is the wrong car it will say decal does not match vehicle, f expired it says expired, no permit mean no permit visible likewise for decal.</div><!--end reply-->

Had this happen to me - bought new car, just placed decal from old car in new car - and hence the ticket/boot (car and license plate did not match what was on file). I got to it before tow, so easy enough fix. Frustrating for the residents who are legit, but I am sure for every situation like mine, they come across someone who is non-res trying to beat the system.

Happened to me too. I put the decal/sticker (got it Jan 09)right where they told me to - the bottom left corner of the back windshield. Thing is it's factory (so not very dark) tinted. So if one bothered to looked or scanned where they were supposed to it would've been right there. Got a ticket, a boot ($150 or so), and a tow ($100 or so). Went to court to protest it and was one of the last ones to go in front of the judge. They told me they would refund the ticket. I asked for a refund for the rest and they said I had to go back to trial (wasn't about to do that) or take some papers to Parking Authority and they might refund it to me. Stupid court lady gave me the wrong papers so Parking Authority and other people gave me the run around and finally I gave up. I was out almost 300 and atleast 4-5 hours cuz of these idiots. Put your sticker in the front right bottom windshield even though the idiots tell you to put it elsewhere. Not sure why I assumed these people would get off their fat bums and have a close look at something or do something correctly.

The stickers are RFID - just like EZpass - all they need to do is drive around or use the handheld scanners. One HPU employee told me himself that they're not accurate and can't pick up 100% of the decals.

Correct me if I'm wrong - but you may not even have to go to court to get the ticket dismissed (for lack of decal) - I think you just need to go to the HPU office and they'll void it if you can prove you've paid for the year.

Anyone?<!--begin reply-->

 <div class="replied_to_style">Well, that's just plain DUMB. Because physically - the sticker is there. How complex is the English language that they can't write "expired decal?" This eliminates any doubt.

Not sure I believe this. Maybe the car owner can come forward and explain.</div><!--end reply-->
