Oh Boy: MTV’s “Jersey Shore”

12/24/2009 Update:
Some folks very angry about free (and creative) speech
OK, this country is really going down hill! No, not because of shows like MTV’s Jersey Shore – but the people that are making demands that the show get canceled!
What ever happened to individuals making up their own mind?
If you really want to get serious about negative stereotypes and “media manipulation,” they I’d suggest banishing Oprah Winfrey and most news networks – those are the real problem with society, because they come across as credible!
Anyway, here’s a fun parody of the Jersey Shore show itself, depicting ordinary girl Alyssa Milano getting transformed into one of the cast members…

What can you say?
Hoboken411 reader Ed sent a simple email tipping me off about this new show on MTV called “Jersey Shore”: “Did you see this? I just can’t wait!”
How many of you will DVR this show?
Who else can imagine that this show will get better cable ratings in NJ and the Tri-State area than the CAKE BOSS?

Guidos come from all backgrounds. Sure there are a lot of them that are Italian, but it’s not just them after all.
Greek Guidos are pretty damned impressive, they give the Italians a run for their money. I went to a club years ago and I was in awe at the

I wonder why these offended groups point to the show and not the guidos themselves. It’s not like we’re discussing unicorns or something.
BTW anyone remember MTV’s first unfortunate brush with the Jersey shore? In 1992 MTV hosted some kind of beach party which attracted a critical mass of “lawless violent youths” who had no trouble finding alcohol. The results were predictable.

(oops clicked send by accident)
Well, anyway, I went to a club in Queens with some friends around ‘98, all the guidos were Greek, and lemme tell ya, the level of attitude, the depth of the tans, the labels on display (the ladies loved anything with a giant gold Moschino logo on it) the height of the hair, the weight of the gold chains was something else. I called them “super guidos”, it was amazing. I lived in Bay Ridge at the time and I thought I had seen it all…

Guidos are nothing new, these types have been around as far back as the 40’s. They have many different names,”nicky newarks, greasers”, one thing they have in common is they are all punks. The italians do not have a monoply on the style ,in my opinion it is more than likely a neighbor hood thing. The style and attitude is passed on by the older dirtbags in the area. Believe it or not there were not many like this in hoboken in the 60’s or 70’s, it was a brooklyn or essex cty thing. We refered to them as cardboard tough guys all talk and folded like a cardboard box when things got rough. 2 years from now they all will be putting price tags on soup cans in some local market. Ignore the show, let it run its course and i know its tough to ignore a tooth ache but try.

Actually, the wannabees are usually from Hoboken. I see them all the time in town. YOU SEE THE REAL MOBSTERS MOVE OUT TO THE BURBS WHILE THE BUBBLE GUM GANGSTERS STAY RIGHT HERE IN HOBOKEN, IN THE SAME HOUSES THAT THEY GREW UP IN!

It’s not nonsense. These things exist.
In response to drdrool who said:
They rent shacks for the summer for $15,000+ and throw all their hard earned money into the NJ shore economy for just a few months of the year.
They are the reason the NJ shore residents rent shacks that would be $100K and condemned in Rhode Island that go for $500K in NJ?
They are the reason the lazy NJ beach bums make a mint for 3 months during their college/HS summer break serving “bennies”.
Face it; NJ shore economy would be nothing without the “bennies”.
That show is a pile of nonsense though.
