Philly’s Cheesesteaks

What happened to Philly’s Cheesesteaks in Hoboken?

Back in December – it was presumed that Philly’s Cheesesteaks was moving down the block to the old Maoz Vegetarian (according to workers on scene). Whatever the case is or was – The old falafel joint is now up for rent. Whoops!

You’ll have to stick with the Midtown Philly Steaks as your only dedicated cheesesteak place in town (although there are plenty of other options as well).

Philly's CheeseSteaks comes up for rent and doomed in Hoboken NJ

Philly’s Cheesesteaks moves to 315 Washington St. in Hoboken, NJ

12/5/2012 Update:

Those of you nervous that Philly’s Cheesesteaks at 523 Washington Street weren’t answering their phone this week – fear not!

They’re taking over the previously doomed Maoz Vegetarian spot at 315 Washington Street. Not sure why they’d move to a seemingly smaller space – but I’d surmise there were some economic benefits for the change.

Just have patience while they complete the latest “Washington Street Musical Chairs” act, and they’ll re-open soon!

I went there once and my cheesesteak was passable/mediocre at best…very disappointing for a place that specializes in the sandwich.

I have had a couple of good ones and a couple of great ones. I do have my doubts that when you say and pay for double steak you get any more at all…..

I’ve gone here 3 times – 2 great sandwiches, one…eh. A couple of the guys seem to haul the majority of the load at this place…the one time my sandwich was mediocre there was a guy working the grill who honestly looked/seemed -really- high. Missed about 2-3 orders that the register called out and screwed up a couple of sandwiches. My guess is…you may have hit the place when he was on the grill.

I have ordered from here a few times (ok more than that). For a long time the sandwiches rocked (steak and cheese with extra cheese – sometimes double meat double cheese.) You really do get more meat in the double meat. As of late the sandwiches have been lacking.. so much so that i have not ordered.

I really liked this place, but I don’t think I can ever sit at a table to eat there again….

Some homeless lady was sleeping at one of the tables inside and urinated all over herself, the chair, and the floor. Obviously it was not a very appetizing experience, and sadly has forever scared me from eating at Philly’s.
