Philly’s Cheesesteaks
What happened to Philly’s Cheesesteaks in Hoboken?
Back in December – it was presumed that Philly’s Cheesesteaks was moving down the block to the old Maoz Vegetarian (according to workers on scene). Whatever the case is or was – The old falafel joint is now up for rent. Whoops!
You’ll have to stick with the Midtown Philly Steaks as your only dedicated cheesesteak place in town (although there are plenty of other options as well).
Philly’s Cheesesteaks moves to 315 Washington St. in Hoboken, NJ
12/5/2012 Update:
Those of you nervous that Philly’s Cheesesteaks at 523 Washington Street weren’t answering their phone this week – fear not!
They’re taking over the previously doomed Maoz Vegetarian spot at 315 Washington Street. Not sure why they’d move to a seemingly smaller space – but I’d surmise there were some economic benefits for the change.
Just have patience while they complete the latest “Washington Street Musical Chairs” act, and they’ll re-open soon!

They took the sign down today, and said they’d reopen by next Thursday at the new spot.

What about Piccolos Hoboken – Famous for Cheesesteaks at ~ newark and clinton?
Didn’t know it existed until I walked by (it was closed on weekend day). The signage looks relatively new…Is this place still around or even a real business? Their facebook page seems like it is open.
Or does it not count because they aren’t exclusively cheesesteaks only world famous for them?

Apparently they got screwed over by their landlord who raised the rent and then stabbed in the back by a former employee who is now running the new business at the same location.

That’s messed up if that’s the case, but I have to say the new place (Midtown) is slightly better than the previous…

Picolos is good steak sandwiches, but not Philly style, they actually give you a nice rib eye on a toasted hero bread.

I hate to see any business in Hoboken go under and competition is always good in the marketplace….
That being said. MIDTOWN Cheesesteaks is soo much better than Philly’s ever was. The new place actually fills up the bun with steak. Great meat-to-bun ratio. And all the varieties on the menu are really great and flavorful. Keep up the high quality and I will keep coming back.
The fries are fantastic too. Give the Cajun or Lemon Pepper a try.
I used to order Philly’s every few months or so, now I am ordering Midtown practically every week. Definitely glad to see an improved Cheesesteak place here. Give it a try.

Is Philly’s cheesesteaks a franchise? There is a Philly’s cheesesteaks in atlantic highlands, I was in the area this morning and got detoured because of road work and went by a small strip mall with a Philly’s cheese steak, related?

I’ve seen dozens of “Philly’s cheesesteaks” from Texas to New Jersey. Can’t protect the commonly used name. What you can do is qualify it with an additional word and protect that. Like:
Uncle Philly’s Cheese Steaks
or
Milli Vanilli Philly’s Cheese Steaks
or
Escape, Escape, bo-boscapie,
Banana-fana fo-fapie
Fee-Fi-mo-mapie
Escapie! Philly Cheesesteaks
