Hudson School presents Antigone

By Sophocles (adapted by Emily Mann)

“This 70-minute adaptation of Antigone, by Emily Mann, asks the question: How can one penetrate the absolute certainty and righteousness of political and religious leaders who refuse to listen?

Directed by Anne-Marie Marcazzo; with Franchesca and Dilia Valdez from North Bergen as Antigone and Ismene; the cast includes Corey Bernstein of Millburn as Creon; Anschel Schaffer-Cohen and Crystal Alicea from Jersey City as Teiriesias and Eurydice; R.J.Konefal from Montclair as Haemon; and Grace Bergere from New York City as Creon’s Aide. The Chorus is played by Taylor Holliman of Newark ; Grace Castillo of Harrison; Sajada Smith from East Orange and George Tolkachev from Jersey City .

Thebes’ Civil War has ended and Creon, the King, proclaims that all who have fought for the State will be given an honorable burial, while the enemies of the State will be given none; anyone daring to bury an enemy will be executed. Antigone battles her uncle, Creon, for the right to bury her brother, Polyneias, who fought against Thebes and lost his life. Undertaking this task will cost her her own life.

Antigone will be presented at The Hudson School Performance Space, 601 Park Avenue, Hoboken, NJ on Friday and Saturday, November 20 and 21 at 8:00 PM, and Sunday, November 22 at 5:00 PM.
