Gun brandished during robbery
Reported moments ago on the Hoboken411 Live Police and Fire Action Channel – an apparent armed robbery a block away from the A&P Supermarket at 7th between Grand and Adams. Two suspects were involved, one carrying a “glock” type weapon, and both were wearing hoodies. One suspect was believed to be Hispanic with facial hair, the other was “much skinnier” and reportedly wearing sunglasses. No other description was attained…
Suspects were last seen running south.

I walk around town w dog, and MP3 player earplugs in, on low volume so I can hear what’s happening around me. I’d be f-n freaked if someone held a gun at me in Hoboken! I like to think that anywhere I go is “safe.”
I like to believe that my alert dog, who is wary of many people, would give me a “heads-up.” Though I’ve always wondered, and never put to a test, if Trin-dog would actually bite someone who was assaulting me, I somehow doubt it. She would bark and lunge and look scary, but doubt she would bite. Any one want to help me test?

article may be interesting, but not relevant to hoboken. crime has definitely gone up in 2009.
instead of wishing the projects would go away, maybe we should be putting pressure on our mayor and police force. maybe if our police were actually patrolling instead of harassing double-parkers on washington street, they could prevent some of this crap.

Bob – you make the assumption that it’s anyone from the projects to begin with when it could be people coming into town to rob us. also, people addicted to heroin or coke are likely robbers – and i know more than a few wallstreeters that are addicted to the stuff. people are often surprised to see who is committing the crime.

I find the article relevant to Hoboken, even if our city is not mentioned. Crime seems to be going up in seemingly wealthy communities versus other areas. Burglars are where the money is…

Since the A and P and Shop Rite and CVS are going to make
big holiday bucks, even during this recession, maybe they can
hire a guard to walk within a block when they see a shopper alone, and through the parking lot or dark area for the same.
( to check for car jackers which also escalate at this time of the year). The mall has extra people out. Maybe a discount to Seniors who can get their food delivered and don’t have to walk it home. I am always leery now after dark, but these perps are even out in the daylight. MORE COPS….less crime…

There are security cameras at 7th and Grand at The Lexington. I wonder if they caught the incident.

“Big Holiday Bucks”? What are you basing that on? Are you astute regarding operating margins in the retail grocery business at an outlet level? You want a store to hire someone to hold your hand as to walk home? In addition to paying all the overtime and extra shifts of cashiers, stockers and management? Big holiday bucks indeed.
Yeah, hire more cops. You’re not paying for it…what the hell? That’s always been the mentality of people like you. It’s much easier than using resources wisely.
I hope everyone with two cents to rub together moves out of Hoboken and leaves the leeches to starve in the streets…then we can move back and run the town properly.

They might wanna hire a guard or two, period. Didn’t a crime happen not too long ago at a CVS where prescription meds were stolen? And aren’t A&P and Shop Rite on the ass side of town, anyway, and maybe it would be helpful to hire a couple of guards for the night shift?
You know what? Maybe you’re right, rag. Maybe we should leave things as they are, allowing them to grow into something we could have prevented, and blow up into something worse. Like prescription meds guy? He could return with his friends, someday. But that would be fine because we can handle a battle with our blackberries. We don’t need guards.
Screw temporary precautionary measures and preparation. Oh, what was Margaret thinking?
