Hopefully Cablevision is being buried with irate phone calls due to this negotiation tactic. The WABC channel just shows the Cablevision propaganda right now.

Might have something to do with the ABC debacle. ABC shut down their feed at 12:01 because of a contract dispute.

My download speed doubled in the morning to 3.0Mbps. Whoopie! Upload is about 2. Cablevision tech wants me to swap for new modem to see if that helps.

Both upload and download speeds have been between 20 and 25 Mb/s since installation, which equates to about 3 MB/s. Most importantly, the speeds have been consistent at all hours of the day.

With the plan we ordered, the service is actually a few bucks cheaper than Cablevision's Triple Play (even under promotional pricing at $90/month + tax). Our package has HDTV and Internet for ~$85 before taxes and that includes an optional speed upgrade to 25Mb (I believe standard is 15Mb). The $150 cash rebate (for not missing a payment during my first three months of service) is set to kick in next month as well.

We're having horrible issues with Cablevision, too. Mostly with the internet, especially with streaming TV shows on the internet. How has FIOS been for you? Especially in regard to internet/streaming? (we're at 3rd and willow)

Is this still working well for you? We mostly have problems streaming TV shows from the internet. Do you know if the amplifier will rectify that type of problem?

In response to YipYap who said:

It is not the cable box it is the signal.

The cable guys around here are notorious for splitting up the wire too many times. Walk around town and look at the sloppy wiring and splitters on the poles and wires.

Cablevision puts out a pretty weak signal as it stands to discourage theft, so the more the wire is split the more issues you will have in your building. The building I live in has one wire coming from the street and was split up a few times between all of the apartments.

The Cable guy came and measured the signal then he went around and disconnected the six other wall outlets I have in my place. That fixed it but would only allow one TV to work properly, with the phone and the internet service. He was too damm lazy to do it right and run a new line from the street even though I was paying for two HD DVR boxes, the phone and internet service.

Anyway the lazy bastard left after messing up my wiring, saying there was nothing he could do.

I had enough of cablevision and their lazy techs so I took matters into my own hands and fixed it myself. I purchased a bi-directional cable amplifier at Radio Shack, reconnected my wall jacks to the amplifier and poof no more signal problems. The amplifier requires power has one input and four outputs.

Check it here at Radio Shack.

Anyone need a Christmas gift idea for a friend with choppy cablevision or weak internet signal?

Well here you go.
