11/3/2009:

Besides the morning and evening “rushes,” election day in Hoboken was relatively tame during the afternoon today. Here’s some sights of what was happening while you were at work this afternoon (for those of you with jobs).

First Thought: Hobokenites are slobs

  • The majority of the street rubbish was discarded political fliers.
  • One such stretch on Hudson Street was Kim Glatt posters which were methodically ripped off the poles and left on the sidewalk. Evidence suggest the mad sign ripper was responsible. C’mon – clean up after yourself! Even people who got fliers on their car shouldn’t just throw them on the ground.. find a receptacle or bring it with you until you do. Decency, folks!
  • People also love leaving empty bags of chips, soft drinks, and even completely uneaten apples lying around. Pigs! Have you no pride in the city you live in?
  • The paid campaign workers seemed civil (except for the mega-mobs of Corzine shirts – slightly unruly), and were often seen chatting it up with one another. Some groups I saw had Glatt, Mason & Zimmer – and spotted a Zimmer volunteer chatting with some rarely seen Brinkman supporters in Midtown. All in all, I spotted no issues. I guess when they don’t have the power of multiple screen names and anonymity, it changes the playing field. But just hope there’s no “close” ending, because that will certainly cause tempers to flare.
