Readerpix: Retro Hoboken Train

10/27/2009:

Hoboken411 reader Margaret sent in this cool retro picture of a train besides the Maxwell House coffee plant (now Maxwell Place) at 11th and Hudson. Was going to make this a “Where is this?” photo quiz, but felt it was too easy. However, can anyone guess what year it was? Judging from the cars in the photo, looks like it could be late 1960’s.

[Stay tuned for the next Readerpix entry! – Note: one reader’s photo(s) will be featured from time to time. Unless your photo is time-sensitive – it will be published in the order it was received! Additional note: Your pictures will have a better chance of being published if they’re in “landscape” mode, as opposed to the taller “portrait” modes… ]

I’ve seen this photo before, so I know it is ’74

There is a website dedicated to the Hoboken Railroad as well, pretty interesting stuff…

Great site. The fact that freight trains used to travel down Hudson Street and River (Sinatra) Street makes the complaints about locating the light rail ROW there even more absurd.

Cool photo! You’re a little off on your date estimate 411. That silver sedan on the right side in parking lot is a 1975 Chevy Malibu.
