Hoboken Photo of the Day – 10/22/2009
Have any of you noticed some of the new street lamps being installed by PSE&G? I personally think they’re awesome. Sleek, very bright and white. At least some things are progressing in Hoboken – probably because city hall isn’t involved.
PS – if you have images collecting dust on your camera or hard drive – send them in for eventual inclusion on Hoboken411! Please state how you’d like to be credited in your email, and a description – if desired!!

speaking of light does anybody know why the boy club light’s go on at 220am and off at 540am they started the light for the pool in the summer now it closed down why is the light on only 3 hours in the middle of the night blaring it to my apartment , ether keep it on all night (if it for safety reason) or go back to keeping it off like before and they can save money on electric,3 hours don’t make scents

I like these new lights. They’re pretty close to 5600K. I wonder how they decided which ones to replace, because 2 out of 3 were done on my block.

They installed one across the street from me. Though I’m on a higher floor, the light still gets into my place. I like the safety aspect, but if I were staying here I’d have to invest into thicker blinds and curtains. It’s like staying at a Bates Motel in downtown Vegas.
Who cares though, I’ve got only a few days left in town.

They are way too bright from inside my apt. Why aren’t we all getting the old fashioned “gaslight” ones in most of the town?

Because those were purchased with TEA-21 federal funds which ended in 2003.

There is no reason why those lamps can’t be capped to direct the light downward to where it is needed. We have enough light pollution already. We don’t need more.

im going off topic slightly but on wash st there is a 4 way stop light at every intersection right? On the #’d streets it is one way each street so we can do away with 1 signal right? they do make 2 3 and 4 sided signals

You OBVIOUSLY don’t have a bedroom facing the street! We have already lodged a formal complaint with PSE&G. I would encourage all to do the same. If I wanted to live in Times Square, I WOULD!

Then pedestrians would have an even more difficult time knowing when they can cross.

I have the same issue where I live. The light is VERY bright and during summer it isn’t so bad because the trees block the light. In winter the leaves have fallen, and my room is bathed in bright light.
Good luck on your new home MR…

• PSE&G installation of high-efficiency street lighting — PSE&G is investing $50 million to replace mercury vapor municipal street lighting with more efficient induction fluorescent lighting that will provide immediate cost savings to municipalities and reduce energy consumption.
From PDF at this link http://www.pseg.com/solar4all/Attachments/July2909Solar4allrelease.pdf
Info about the lamps are on Wikipedia here:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrodeless_lamp#Fluorescent_induction_lamps
The claim is that the new lamps can last as long as 20 years in street lamp applications. No reason why they can’t put a shade on it, though.
