The guy I’m thinking of is someone the cops would never ticket as he worked in Hoboken for decades before retiring. He may be widowed, I don’t know — I used to see him out at night walking with his wife, but I haven’t seen her in a while. He has friends who sit there and drink some evenings, too. The guy is a nice old man and I’m not saying he should get a ticket, though it would be nice if someone in law enforcement could set him up with a social worker or someone he could talk to instead of sitting outside drinking every day. I just don’t know why DnD allows it on their property; if he has a sudden medical issue or there is some other problem resulting from people drinking on their property, they could be liable for any damages as they have a history of allowing it.

I wonder why you can get a ticket for doing this inside the gate in front of your apartment, but it’s OK in front of a restaurant.

All I can surmise is that the restaurant has a permit for outdoor dining.

There is at least one older gentleman who sits out there every day drinking wine from plastic cups. He’s very nice, but I don’t know why the DnD management puts up with it.
