Don’t let taxi drivers scam you!

10/20/2009:

Know your taxi rights!

Lately, I’ve noticed quite a bit of griping about the Hoboken Taxi’s, ride sharing, and more here on Hoboken411 – and reader Todd snapped this “reminder” photo of a sign that’s in a couple of the cabs in town.

If you don’t feel like sharing a cab, you don’t have to. So if you want to sit in comfort after your long day at work, be the first passenger and say “I want to ride alone…”

Experience any problems? Note the taxi number and contact Annette Chaparro at 201-216-1090. (But please go easy on her, she’s one of the employees at city hall that does a good job!)

Always so many complaints on here about the ride sharing “scam.” If that rule was enforced, then everyone would complain about the ridiculously long lines for cabs (people would ride alone, or the friver would refuse to take more than the max 2 fares and try to get back in line as fast as possible). And if the town added more cabs, then everyone would complain that there are too many cabs in town (actually I think I’ve already heard that one).

These drivers aren’t rolling in dough. That’s a crappy job. Let them make a living at peak hours and keep the lines moving. It’s the best, and most environmentally conscious, approach. Other than walking, which is of course always an option in a town this size, particularly if you think paying $5 to a taxi driver is a scam.

THANK YOU!!! Thank you for bringing this to the forefront. I agree with you to take it easy on Annette, she is great. BTW, I do not know her personally. I have, however, emailed her on a couple of occasions regarding the taxi probs and she gets back to you the same day. Now when does that ever happen?

I think with you bringing this to everyone’s attention, maybe everyone will feel emboldened and confident to do something about this situation, which in my eyes is out of control. The cabbies do as they wish. As I posted in “Rants”, CABS CANNOT ASK YOU WHERE YOU ARE GOING BEFORE YOU GET IN A CAB. It is up to the rider in the car if he/she wants to split a cab. If yes, the cab must take you, regardless of where you are going. We must all not allow this to continue. I feel like an idiot waiting for a cab to give me the okay to get in his cab. And quite frankly, I am sick of it!

Last Thursday we were at Mulligans…yes I am a Philly fan

We took a cab back and my buddy was up for the night so we decided to take the cab to his truck then walk home to avoid the 2 stop charge that they try to pull which is fine but we knew it was on 12th and thought it was Garden turns out it was Bloomfield (I knew it was a north running block) I apologized and said I was off a block and he told me it was goign to be 2 fares (10 bucks) now because I told him the wrong location…I told him its one fare and he said get the f’ out and told me he was calling the cops…funny thing was he was in the middle of the street and we hear woo wooooo cops behind us…cops told the cabbie to take us to where we need to ASAP and its one fair the cabbie was pissed just shows they try to rip you off for everything its ridiculous

I called city hall and got annette’s voicemail on speaker, i left a message about what happened and when i got home driver said the ride was on him?

Ever wonder why Taxi’s are treated as a public utility? I say deregulate them and let’s see the free market at work. I’m sure all the left wing trust fund babies living in Hoboken will gladly pay more that $5 for someone to haul their ass around. I’ll glady take my $5 cab ride, I don’t care if you put Rush Limbaugh in the car.

what about two people entering the cab at the same time, going to the same place… $5 right?
i had a cabbie try to get $10 from me.

oh, $24 to get to newark airport if you get the coupons in the mail that are sent every month in that blue envelope.
