I’ve eaten here several times and love it all around. There is a really cool vibe. The decor is more “tropical” than La Isla. The staff is very friendly and the food was great. What more can you ask for? Oh.. and the prices were not too bad either.

Zafra is wonderful, let me recommend their satellite Ultramarinos as well. Nice, unique addition to Hoboken. As for the rant above….sounds to me like you were camping at the table, waiting for the friend. I agree with SSHHHHHH, you should wait outside. Why should the restaurant have to compromise their ability to turn tables (ie: make money) because your friend could not show up on time? Just because you ordered apps while you were waiting is irrelevant. Were you not going to have appetizers if your party was complete? The fact is this, when a party is sitting at a table waiting for someone to join, the party dines at a slower pace. Also, often, the late party wants an app as well. Imagine how many tables do not get turned due to this? Remember, yours is not the only table over the course of the night to do this. As for the BYOB, restaurants are in the business of serving food AND drinks. They allow you, via BYOB, to bring outside drinks into their establishement in an effort to offer a more complete experience. They do charge a fee for Sangria (to mix, serve, clean ptcher, etc) partly to recoup the LOST monies from you not buying their non-alcoholic drinks, ie: Iced Teas, Sodas, Bottled Waters, etc. The restaurant and server make a living serving the guests of the establishment. This ability is compromised when people use the dining areas as a waiting room/lounge. The bar is the place… Read more »

i’m gonna go out on a limb and guess you were bitchy – if one must take a stab at getting at the truth here based on not having been there. probably the standard-issue prissy hoboken girl who models herself after a sex and the city character, looking for her derek jeter. 🙄
in response to all of the negative comments…my friends and i all know how we were treated! it was bad enough to never return! and let it be known that none of us were bitchy. we don’t have to be…we have class.
Yum yummmmm. LOVE Zafra! I was there last week for lunch with 3 friends. I never have any problems. Maybe because we don’t keep them waiting for late guests. We all wait outside until we’re all there.

I want to start by saying that I have NEVER written a review about a restaurant…I am not that person to rant about something. However, I have never been treated so poorly as I was at ZAFRA. My girlfriends and I were looking forward to catching up with one another over great food and awesome sangria…however that was NOT the case last Friday at Zafra. First of all one of my friends had arrived earlier than the rest of us, there wasn’t anyone else in the restaurant at the time that she got there, however they gave her a problem with seating. Once, they finally did, we ordered at least $40 worth of apps while waiting for our last friend to arrive (stuck in bad traffic). We also had a pitcher of Sangria…which they still charge you for even though it’s BYO. We were then rushed to order our entree by our nasty waitress (really short hair, didn’t get her name)…so we did. The food came out in 2 minutes…I literally mean 2 minutes. By this time our last friend arrived. We then ordered a second pitcher of Sangria, ate our food, and ordered dessert. We were rushed to pay our bill and leave b/c apparently there were people waiting. Let it be known that there were only two people waiting and that other diners had been there the same amount of time that we were. The food is delicious but I will NEVER go back to Zafra or their… Read more »

Having eaten there a couple dozen times without trouble I can only assume that you and your friends were being really bitchy if they wanted you out of there so badly. Yummy, yummy, yummy! My FAV is the steak sandwich. My fiance and I went with another couple for dinner and brought our own 1.5 liter of wine and only spent $60! It was amazing, we were all full and very happy with the tapas style dinner we had. We were able to try a lot of things on the menu and enjoyed all of them. The only thing I am not a fan of so far is the chicken soup (too many noodles)…the pumkin soup was fantastic though!
