I too live on Jefferson St. And it seems not only is this one of the busiest streets for traffic but because of the social club, Delfino's and Diana's the double parking is out of control! The fact that I cannot find a spot anywhere within 3 blocks of my home because of this is ridiculous! Double Parking to unload is one thing, Double Parking in front of an open spot so you won't get blocked in while you go have dinner, or breakfast is absurd!

It has been my experience that when I have been parked in by double parkers or parked in at a driveway that I call the HPD. They will not respond unless you agree to wait by your car for them to respond. When the black & white arrives, the routine is not always the same, but at a minimum they will run the sirens until the offender shows up, or if they don't will execute a tow. They may or may not ticket. In either case, a message is sent to the illegal parker, much more so than if you just sit in your car and honk until the illegal parker comes out, mouths an "I'm sorry" and either drives around the block or better yet, the double parker TAKES YOUR SPOT and is rewarded for their misdeed. But yes, calling it in takes a bit of time and moxy.

Unless the uniformed pd officer was lying to me a few years ago, the police don't enforce parking issues. They will refer you and your complaint to the HPA. You may know something different, in fact? If so, please share.

If a car is blocking you in, call the PD and wait for an officer to come down. A few repeats of this should alleviate the problem. Yes, certain abuses have become institutionalized because people rarely care to spend the time to go through these motions. You are talking about a very old problem which has been handled in a particular way for a long time. Probably not going to change very soon or very quickly. And yes, there are legit reasons to double park for a few minutes, despite what the car-less zero tolerance types have to say. But any car double parked for more than half an hour should be towed IMHO.

The Hoboken Parking Authority clearly is unable and/or unwilling to step up enforcement. With the volume of cars and violators, there should be dozens of people writing tickets at all hours. But I see very few. In fact, in my 8 years of either hanging or living here, I can think of only three ticket enforcers: blond lady with glasses, younger guy with glasses, and thin middle-aged italian-looking character actor guy. There may be one other lady, one with brown hair, but she might have been a figment of my imagination.

Nobody here has any clue as to what the staffing and hours of the enforcement officers are? Email to the HPA has yielded nothing.

This sounds like you have a specific example of someone taking advantage of the favorable enforcement. If it happens everyday and the person jst leaves their car, I would actually call the PD and file a complaint. However, I can understand why people sometimes have to doublke park, such as unlaoding their car.

I have to say that over the past two weeks I've seen more tickets being given out and more police officers forcing people to move their illegally parked cars. Especially on Hudson Street.

I fully agree that it is wrong and frustrating, but for some reason I feel like I've seen the cops do a little more in recent weeks than they have in the past.

I think the only solution really is to ticket and tow the violators, not much else you can do.
