Filippo’s Pizza – Doomed

Filippo’s Pizza: R.I.P. 2013

Fillipo’s Pizza on First St. is doomed and for rent. Residents are scrambling for replacements!

Sort of the what Google Reader users had to do when they announced the sunsetting of a loved product this week. Well, not exactly – but I know the feeling these people have!

Back when I ate pizza – I could recommend a couple places. Pizza Republic makes nice slices, Benny Tudino’s doesn’t skimp when you order pies, and King of Wings Pizza in Weehawken does a nice buffalo chicken pie.

What is your favorite in Hoboken?

Will Filippo’s Pizza ever rebound after Sandy flooded Hoboken?

A lot of people loved Filippo’s Pizza. It’s been over four months since Hurricane Sandy slammed Hoboken. You ever wonder if “Filippo’s on First” will ever make it back?

Hardly a sign of work at Filippo’s Pizza

Taking a look at the construction “progress” over at Filippo’s Pizza the other day – it doesn’t seem like much has happened, other than the gutting of the interior and small stack of sheet rock.

Although their website has a message posted only a week or two after the superstorm: “Filippo’s will be closed for renovations for about a month while we rebuild in the wake of the hurricane Sandy flooding. Please check back for an open date and come see us again.” (Message dated 11/8/12)

Anyone hear what might be going on with this neighborhood favorite? Or are they fed up with the problems in this area of town – and are calling it quits?

I own a condo on 1st&Park. I live uptown. When we had our Sandy storm damage condo mtg. about a month and change ago,I found out that night that Filippo’s wasn’t returning. I also found out that The First St.Cafe is not returning as well as Zin. The home furnishing store. I don’t recall the fate of the liquor store next to Luca Brasi’s deli. It’s a shame about the business devastation on that block. I loved Fillippo’s. I will miss Zin. The guy from First St.Cafe was so nice.

🙂 fllippios was no bargin.unless you own the bldg you have to bring in at least 18,k a month. Benny owns his bldg..the rents are out of this world for these stores..Hoboken is not a place to shop with the moronic prices you can save at the malls..tutta pasta its said to be asking 30k per month.right ..shop away.Chasing people to the malls and walmart.shame on the merchants..your call if you rather pay double for an item..it is what it is.[quote comment=”219916″]I own a condo on 1st&Park. Fillippo’s used to have the best chicken parm hero in town–that was my go-to ‘welcome back to Hoboken’ order after long trips away.. I don’t know who else stacks up in that dept.–M&P maybe..

Giovanni’s slices hit the spot, and we love the pies from San Giuseppe. Grimaldi’s too but a bit costly. Worst slice is in that strip mall downtown.
