7 Star Pizza

8/3/2007 Update:

Last week, I was excited to announce the re-opening of 7 Star(s) Pizza. I had a very tasty slice that day. I also ordered one of those (almost) jumbo 24 inch pizzas this past weekend too. Wasn’t as “cheesy” as the in-store slices, but was still good nonetheless. Had decent shelf-life (in the freezer) and re-heated well.

However, yesterday I had the Worst. Pizza. Ever.

Ordered a standard-size pie, with bacon. I’ve never eaten a “bad” slice of bacon in my life. Until yesterday. Hell in Hoboken.

I expect pizza with bacon to have crispy little bacon pieces on it. What I got from these dopes was practically raw FULL SLICES of bacon on the pie. Looked like worms. I’m certain they put RAW bacon on the pizza, then baked it. It was the worst and most difficult thing on earth to eat. Number 1, the bacon was chewy, limp and not tasty. Number 2, trying to pick up a slice just resulted in ALL THE TOPPINGS falling off. Number 3, when trying to remove the bacon, it just took all the damn cheese with it. I ended up actually eating only 2 pieces. I threw the rest out.

I was so mad at one point I threw a slice at the wall and punched my toaster oven. Thank god my dog was on vacation for the afternoon, as he’d probably soil my home after seeing the rampage I went on.

Worst ever, and I’m not kidding. Not sure how many of you like bacon on your pizza, but NEVER do it at 7 Star(s).

7/24/2007 Update:

Breaking Pizza News! They re-opened yesterday (exactly 15 months to the day since they had closed).

I had a giant plain slice ($2.25), and I have to say it was better than I remember. Quite good, actually! A very decent value for the money. On Fridays and Saturdays they’re open till 5:00am! I had asked the owner about the extra “S”, and from what I gathered from the conversation, it was a bit of a mistake, that they just ran with.

Welcome back, 7 Star(s)!

3/13/2007 Update:

Construction plods along, and they installed what may be the largest sign for pizza in Hoboken.

The extra “S” in “7 Stars Pizzeria” could be a few things:

  1. New ownership, keeping much of the previous namesake.
  2. A dopey error made by the sign shop.
  3. Where the “Last S” from 1-800-Mattres went.
  4. Where the missing “s” from Mayor Robert(s) letter to 411 went.

11/28/2006 Update:

Was strolling by last week, and asked again when they should be open.. they guy on site mentioned “two months”. I guess the HATT was right last month when it said “2 or 3 months.”

Here’s a recent picture. It no longer resembles a fire-hazard pizza shack.

10/27/2006 Update:

Stopped by yesterday to notice some “action” going on here at 7 Star pizza.

I inquired with one of the guys at the site, and they hope to be re-opening “in a month”. Plugging that phrase into the “Hoboken Actual Time Translator” (HATT for short), outputted the answer: “2 or 3 months”. Perhaps it’ll be wrong this time.

5/6/2006 Update: They seem to be closed for "renovations". Hopefully they'll renovate the taste as well.

The picture is about as blurry as my vision is when I typically eat there!

At the beginning of “Annie Hall”, Woody Allen opens with: “There’s an old joke. Two elderly women are at a Catskills mountain resort, and one of ’em says: “Boy, the food at this place is really terrible.” The other one says, “Yeah, I know, and such … small portions.” That is in contrast to this venue, where the pizza is terrible, but hey, the portions are large. That’s probably a good thing if you are in need of feeding a “last call” case at 3 AM on a Saturday. Happy yesterday’s re-heats! Hope you don’t break a tooth. If it’s something you are going to consume yourself and you are still able to remember your middle name at 3AM, you might want to think of changing venues to Cluck-u-Chicken or Stacks, or at least Imposto’s. I wonder if some of those slices sit at 7Star long enough for them to give them names, like maybe ‘Chuck’. Then when the slice is sold, the counter person says to it “Chuck, parting is such sweet sorrow. I almost remember the day I made you, we were so young then. But the moisture that was once in you will remain in the air here forever. Goodbye old friend, hello $2.50. Or $12.50 if they don’t have their wits about them.” Bottom line: take a look over the counter at what they are going to dish up before you commit. I try to be a nice guy but they have tried to take me… Read more »

They tried to scam me here once. I gave the guy a twenty and he gave me back change for a ten. He knew what he was doing, but assumed I was drunk and wouldn’t notice. I called him out on it.

They tried to scam me too. The only time I ordered from here, they charged my credit card twice. I would never order from here again because of it.

I stopped going here pre reconstuction after a couple bad experiences. As a last resort early Sunday morning at 2AM when the snow was coming down, I called 7 star and they delivered a decent pie by 2:20 AM. IN THE SNOW all the way uptown. I was totally impressed!
