Hoboken Breakfast Nuggets – 9/8/2009

9/8/2009:

Hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend, and has a quick, painless short week ahead!

Here’s the latest periodical morning collection of news tidbits in and around Hoboken and beyond…

Union Dry Dock gets over $500k stimulus

“In these tough economic times, it is vital that we invest in America’s maritime industry so that it is better prepared to meet our nation’s shipping needs,” NJ Senator Lautenberg said as Union Dry Dock & Repair Company of Hoboken will receive $577,902 in federal funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) for welding, lifting and blast and coating equipment to help improve the local and regional shipping industry.

Obama has genius advice

This weekend, President Obama shared brilliant information with school kids – telling them to wash their hands often. Curiously, he didn’t cover what would happen if the previous person didn’t wash their hands and touched the door handle on the way out of the bathroom. Next step – telling humans to remember to breathe and eat.

Michael Moore is a tool

Film maker Michael Moore makes news with his latest movie called Capitalism: A Love Story – basically saying that “Captialism is evil.”

Ironically, his controversial film will sell tickets, and earn him money in the exact capitalistic way he’s criticizing.

Big Right Wing news story today?

Lastly, one of the more conspiracy-minded Hoboken411 readers sent me this video preview from Infowars.com host Alex Jones – who is claiming the biggest story in his 14 years will air this morning at 11am. I have no idea what it will be or how big (he says “national news”) it will be. Take it for what it’s worth.

And have a great day everyone!

Alex Jones is a POS. Please don’t lump him in with the right wing. He is a wingnut

Michael Moorer films are entertaining. Just like the righty shows like Beck & O’Reilly, these people sprinkle in just enough facts to make them seem true. The problem is that too many people don’t see these ultra left or ultra right media mavens for what they really are – people trying to make a buck.

Sorry, I meant Michael Moore, the extra large film maker, not Michael Moorer, the ex-boxing champ.

I haven’t seen the Michael Moore film so I won’t judge but after everything we’ve been through the last 10 years with AIG, Enron, and the mortgage mess he may have a point to make. Is capitalism evil? No, greed is evil. But too often they become intertwined.

Did anyone see the HBO special last night “Closing of a GM Factory”? It was a bit Moore-esque with a bit of a heavy handed docu-drama over the workers losing their jobs.

when someone receives “federal funding” they are receiving money from the “federal” government not the State government. that would be from “Washington DC” to use a generic explanation. the ARRA is the “stimulus act” from Feb for $787 billion that was supposed to create jobs and help the country etc. so here’s a perfect example of what the disasterous “stimulus act” does for America; theis dry dock company is busy round the clock. they repair the hulls of barges for the most part. their 2 dry docks ALWAYS have hulls in there being repaired. they power wash/scrape the hulls, weld cracks, annd paint them. how many new jobs are being created by giving these guys 1/2 $million dollars? maybe they hire a new guy? more likely they buy a new piece of equipment that allows the owner to finishe a job faster and allows him to improve his profit margins. THIS is how the ENTIRE “stimulus act” has been workinng so far! your Dem politicians and president think YOU are too F’ng stupid to see what they have done. they are sh1tting on you and the rest of the country. is this what you voted for?
