Found parking tickets – 9/3/2009

9/3/2009:

Carelessly applied once again

Hoboken dog walker Kristen found a bunch of parking tickets on the streets this week. If any of these belong to you – you’ll save 10 bucks by paying them before the due date. Otherwise – another dreaded “Official Notice” will arrive in the mail.

I still don’t understand why the Hoboken Parking Utility doesn’t make it mandatory to put these under the windshield wiper – and not just wedged between the hood and quarter panel. This is modern day robbery – unless you inconvenience yourself to go to court to avoid the $10 late fee.

(I also put in the found parking tickets section too)

keep in mind that if you receive a parking ticket in the state of new jersey and are also a resident, failure to pay will ultimately result in your license being revoked. If you get pulled over with a suspended license, you will be arrested (so I found out a few years back… 8-O)

Here’s another municipal money making scheme for you. I was cited for making a right turn on red (didn’t see the sign prohibiting this, my bad). I wanted to pay the ticket, but I couldn’t decipher what the fine was, so I went to city hall, was told “he(the officer) hasn’t handed in his docket book yet. Call in a few days”. I did call, same routine. Ticket also did not show up on internet database for the same reason. I waited it out and the day before the optional court appearance on the ticket I went down again and told them the court date is tomorrow, was again told “he hasn’t handed in the docket book yet, call in a few days, don’t worry about it”. Of course this is an immediate tip-off to begin worrying. About a day or two later,I went down again, the ticket finally surfaced. When I went to pay it on the spot I WAS SLAPPED WITH A LATE FEE! I was told I could take it to court if I wanted to fight the fee. Decided it wasn’t worth it and the judge would side with the officer anyway. And I would be out a day’s pay in my pursuit of justice.

Long story short about three months later someone I work had down to the letter the same experience with the “docket book not handed in yet” and the late fee. Seems it’s something of a tradition in Hoboken. Thanks for nothing, HPD.

What’s worse is it’s the same officer. Pure laziness
