Hobokenpix: Croquet at Maxwell

8/23/2009:

This game isn’t for angry barbarians

Today, over at the “South Lawn” of Maxwell Place – a classy group of similarly dressed Hobokenites gathered for a sophisticated afternoon game of Croquet.

I can only imagine an angry group of residents banding together to have this banned from public parks as well (like dogs, and most other “ball playing.”)

A flute without holes, is not a flute. A donut without a hole, is a Danish.

Caddyshack was THE movie to quote before Office Space (unless you were “edgy” and fancied “Clerks.”) I was always amazed (and occasionally awed) by some people’s ability to recite obscure lines AND mimic the quoted actor with pinpoint accuracy. To do this without the geek factor of rattling off Python lines seems to be a lost art. Or something.

This is good stuff. I got it from a Negro. You’re probably high already and you don’t even know it.

Do the croqueteers live there?

I don’t think that ball-playing is permitted on the grounds. (Not that this is a *sport*.) On July 4th, a couple of officers came down on a group that played volleyball nicely on the lawn…
