Special Weather Statement

8/23/2009:

The National Weather Service issued a “special weather statement” that some mini-thunderstorm might impact Hoboken – I don’t necessarily think it will – but then again, they’re paid to predict the weather – not me.

hoboken-weather-august-23-2009

AT 625 PM EDT… NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR WAS TRACKING STRONG THUNDERSTORMS ALONG A LINE EXTENDING FROM HACKENSACK TO CARTERET… AND MOVING EAST AT 5 MPH.

THESE STORMS WILL BE…
NEAR SECAUCUS BY 640 PM.
NEAR BERGENFIELD BY 645 PM.
NEAR OAKWOOD BY 650 PM.
NEAR ENGLEWOOD BY 655 PM.
NEAR UNION CITY BY 700 PM.
NEAR HOBOKEN BY 705 PM.

SMALL HAIL… AND WINDS UP TO 40 MPH ARE EXPECTED WITH THESE STORMS. IN ADDITION… VERY HEAVY RAIN… WITH RAINFALL RATES OF UP TO ONE AND ONE HALF INCHES AN HOUR… IS OCCURRING WITH THESE STORMS. THIS COULD CAUSE PONDING OF WATER ON ROADWAYS… AND MINOR FLOODING OF POOR DRAINAGE AREAS.
