Careful swimming this weekend!

This weekend may blow for ocean swimming

Since the middle of August seems to be the most popular time for families to take their vacation (“Back to School” is coming up soon) – many of you might want to note that there will be a decent sized storm miles off the coast this weekend.

Hurricane Bill – while predicted to possibly reach Category 4 strength – is not expected to make landfall in the U.S. This doesn’t mean that some impact wouldn’t be felt 500 miles away. Dangerous rip currents and large waves are likely, which is great for local NJ surfers, but treacherous for uninformed swimmers who panic and drown.

If you encounter a strong rip current while you are swimming, the first thing to do is not panic. Swim parallel to the beach until you are out of the rip current then proceed toward the beach and out of the water.

Be safe this weekend!
