Single? Move to Edgewater!

8/18/2009:

Edgewater? Really?

Here’s a silly list of the best places to live if you want to find the “Rich and Single” from CNN Money. Nearby neighbor of Hoboken – Edgewater, NJ comes in at number #4.

is-edgewater-really-a-good-place-for-singles

Population: 9,582
Single: 34.3%
Median family income: $105,830
“Affluent Manhattan professionals make their nests in the million-dollar townhouses that line New Jersey’s “Gold Coast.” Flirt with your neighbors in the organic produce aisle of the local Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s. Or tone your muscles and expand your social circle at one of the borough’s fitness centers. Hold hands as you gaze at the breathtaking Manhattan skyline. Or take a five-minute ferry ride across the Hudson River for all the nightlife New York City has to offer.”

Rounding out the top three were – Coronado, CA, Arlington, VA and Hermosa Beach, CA.
Other NJ cities to make the top 25 were: Madison, Montclair and Rutherford (Really?)

Why not Hoboken?

Why do you think our beloved mile square city didn’t make the list? Some suggested responses might be…

  • “Have you seen all the strollers?”
  • “We would have if it weren’t for that tax increase!”
  • “The Real Estate prices leave little left for wining and dining!”

Well – I’m going to put the list to the test one day – although I’m a frequent customer at Trader Joe’s – and didn’t even think once to hit on a woman there – slim pickings. Any good singles bars in Edgewater? (That are not primarily restaurants?) Some place with a good sized bar, etc.

Madison being on this list proves it is flawed. My father lived there, and the only singles are the ones still living with their Mammy’s & pappy’s. It’s a nice place, but there’s nothing to do.

Also, Edgewater has absolutely nothing for singles. Hoboken is much more active.

Edgewater? I love their movie theatre, Trader Joe’s market, occasionally the Haagen Dazs shop and the Anthropologie store for its knick-knacks. Yawn and/or blech to the rest of the town.

LOL. Slim and rude. Whenever we go, the shoppers, 97% of them women, are among the rudest. Sheesh. You’d think that all the TJ merchandise were 80% off and flying off the racks the way some jerks just walk into us WITH a cart. The friendly women are already married, with a cute kid or two at that place.

As an example, there are fifty of the same item on a shelf or in a section, one of which I’d like to get, and a douchey lady will just stand there with her lady friends for an hour, knowing that I’m politely waiting for them to move.

Ugh.

Anyway, I love Trader Joe’s when all is said and done… because the products are great and the staff is amazing– all of which keeps me coming back for more.

Been to Whole Foods once. You’re not missing anything if you haven’t been.

That article seems more like an add for those empty condos they are trying to sell over there. Median income data seems off $105k humm $78k is what city-data dot com has for Edgewater and also lists Hoboken a little higher at $80k.

Also Hoboken has more hot chicks per square mile than any other town in Joisey, and the Media age is lower here, unfortunately Hoboken also has the highest density of TOOLs per sq mile in NJ so Edgewater beats us there.

New Jersey is filled with tools, that is so many transplants live close to the water and Manhattan. In case of a tool uprising, the swim back to civilization is at your doorstep.

The nicest areas are usually closest to New York…Jersey could become the Tool State.

And guess were a lot of those “tools” come from? NY, ie Long Island and Staten Island.

I don’t disagree about Staten Island. However, Long Island has several distinct sections. East End (Hamptons, etc.), South Shore, North Shore and middle earth.

The trash is in middle earth (center of Suffolk County and Nassau County). The South Shore population of LI is very similar to the tool population of Staten Island. The North Shore of LI is where civilization continues to thrive.

Hope this was helpful to you and your crew Bobby Bayonne. Don’t be upset you were born in Jersey, it has earned the Armpit of America distinction for a reason. Embrace your roots.

If you’re going to generalize about the entire State of NJ, you don’t get to split hairs about LI. Plenty of douchebags out there, and to be honest, for the most part there is so very little difference between the two it’s not even worth trying.

I knew you would respond with that silly saying. Wiki has it as

Benny is a derogatory term used by the often angry residents of the Jersey Shore to describe tourists from more northern cities, specifically New York City and its immediate suburbs. The term is predominantly used by locals from the towns of Ocean County and Monmouth County.

I am so sorry you have so much anger. Are you from Ocean or Monmouth?

Dude, I was just joking… Anyway, yes, that’s where I was born and grew up.

I agree with Easy-E’s comment.

I wast totally screwing around.

Personally, Staten Island has the highest per square mile Tool occupancy in the country. I suspect it is all the inbreeding on the island.
