War Vets have snack in Hoboken today

8/16/2009:

Starting at 1:00pm today…

Cake Boss to raise blood sugar levels

The otherwise quite & peaceful Sunday we’re all enjoying today will become a bit busier later as some war veterans are making a pit stop in Hoboken as part of their trip to New York City.

Sponsored by the Wounded Warrior Project, several injured veterans of the Iraq War, as well as WWII POW’s and their families will pull up to the shores of Hoboken in a FDNY fireboat at around 1:00pm (Pier A Park).

Their visit to Hoboken will include a meet & greet at Carlo’s City Hall Bake Shop – home of the popular cable TV reality series “Cake Boss” (Which I’m guessing will be part of a future episode). After they have a few cupcakes and mingle with Buddy and staff, they’ll get to meet other hard-working civil servants when they have a home-cooked meal with the Hoboken Fire Department (who wants to bet it’s some kind of pasta?)

The mission of the Wounded Warrior Project is to honor and empower wounded warriors. Their purpose is to raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of severely injured service men and women, help severely injured service members aid and assist each other, and provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of severely injured service members.

Head downtown later if you want to check it out!

I was going to pick up some cookies this morning to bring to a family members house after a memorial today. The line was about 50 deep outside the door. They are good but certainly not that good. I walked up to the other Italian bakery further up Washington. Happy for their success but unless I go first thing in the am its not worth it to me to stand in line.

I went to Carlo’s one evening last week. It has gotten insanely busy since Cake Boss. I just wanted something small. I was asking questions. They had no patience. I bought a danish and a small cookie. They seemed really unhappy with the fact. That I only spent $2.75

Giorgio’s has the best italian cookies. I love the half-chocolate-covered sandwich ones with the jelly middles. They just melt in your mouth– yum, my favorite :)!

I like the orange paste cookies and the rum balls.
