I like the old people that are screaming that they don’t want the government involved in their Medicare and social security.

If we hate socialism so much, why don’t we get rid of those programs.

Hypocrites.

How many of those screaming about the evils of socialism are burning their social security checks and medicare cards?

By the way, there’s no mention or discussion in this largely useless article regarding dealing with the underlying costs, namely frivolous litigation in search of deep pockets and doctors having to perform a significant number of additional and largely unnecessary (and costly) CYA tests as a direct result of litigation. Rather, the focus on the existing ‘healthcare plans’ is on those nasty nasty insurance companies (which are, by the way, regulated at the state level, in New Jersey through the Department of Banking and Insurance)-listen, there are issues with some insurance company practices, but you don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. Beyond this, you don’t hear of health insurance (let alone any other insurance company) making outsize profits (a la gas/oil companies). My points are: 1) your article reference is less than useless insofar as it doesn’t encompass the fullness of the underlying issues; 2)the healthcare plans don’t address the underlying costs, particularly frivolous litigation which raises insurance rates and drives medical practitioners out of markets (look at gynocologists in the state of Pennsylvania, leaving the state because of insurance rates which have gone through the roof because of litigation and the failure to enact tort reform). The healthcare plans (regardless of the version) don’t discuss controlling litigation costs largely because politicians, Democrats and Republicans alike, are lawyers, and the Democrats in particular are in the ABA’s back pocket–look at issues such as tort reform at each state level and who fights against these reform efforts. Andrew Weil is a kook – way to rely on him. Obama is dooming himself to 1 term with this nonsense. Countdown…..

Yes crasydaisy – I’ve just read this. Do you have a point to make? What would you choose if you were sick: Integrative Medicine ala Weil the author you reference, or Hoboken U Med Center with its new Somatom machine.

Dr Weil says: The Growing Influence of Money is the darkest cloud over American medicine. The profit motive, once only a part of health care, now drives the whole system.

strand tramp. check out the author’s website:

http://integrativemedicine.arizona.edu

This is what he advocates:

“The Center defines integrative medicine (IM) as healing-oriented medicine that takes account of the whole person (body, mind, and spirit), including all aspects of lifestyle. It emphasizes the therapeutic relationship and makes use of all appropriate therapies, both conventional and alternative.”

what are you going to do if you get sick?
