Irony: Man down 5th and Jackson

8/4/2009:

Only in Hoboken

As Hoboken plays it’s part in tonight’s big “National Night Out” – which is supposed to be against crime and drugs and all that jazz – a man was assaulted near 5th and Jackson – just ONE block from the big festivities. He was reported to be bleeding profusely from the face – and was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment.

Why did he wander from the (6 hours per year) two block “safe zone?”

As always, chime into the Hoboken411 Live Police and Fire Action Channel to hear all sorts of stories throughout the day!

I was there for a kickball game (the fight started right next to the baseball fields on 4th and Jackson).

The man was mentally ill and was shouting at the air. He was then surrounded by a gang of hoodlums from the projects right next door. One of the hoodlums was punching him. We chased them off, and the police arrived a few minutes later. The guy was in bad shape. I wouldn’t be surprised if he lost an eye. Thats where most of the blood was coming from.

Damn .. I’m moving to Jackson St, but well below 4th and 5th street. Disconcerting to say the least … my biggest concern is finding decent parking. I know there are plenty of spots above 3rd and Jackson, but I’m sure that’s for an intentional reason …
