Hoboken Photo of the Day – 8/2/2009

Now that the rain has stopped – why not take a stroll (or jog) out to the Maxwell Place Pier? Some readers may think it’s a bit too “industrial” looking – I think it’s still a nice addition to the town. Oh – there’s a slight chance we may get another shower or two before the day is over…

Just to piss you off, Tramp.
But seriously, responsible dog owners are just as annoyed as you because it gives us all a bad name. Many of us carry extra baggies and will hand one to anyone we see not cleaning up. But most of them are stealthy…they must come out at night…and, like bankers, brokers and politicians, think someone else should clean up their mess. Many are big dogs (and I suspect the owners think of themselves that way too)…look at the size of the piles.
Before you all start ranting at dog owners generally, consider this: My dog does not afford me a tax deduction, nor does he cost the taxpayer $25,000 a year to educate. He doesn’t spit his chewing gum onto the sidewalk, or toss his cigarette butts and beer bottles on the ground, or stuff his household trash in streetcorner litter baskets. He doesn’t require police intercession for uncivil activities, or smoke in bed. He doesn’t hog the sidewalk in double or triple wide strollers. He doesn’t scare the holy bejesus out of people by quickly breezing by jogging or skateboarding. He does pee on parking meters and many of us envy that.

at least the 50-100 dog owners will have an easier time each morning smearing their dog’s sh1t up from the concrete than they do on the boards covering the 2 piers to the north. with an entire city full of streets why do you dog owners choose to distribute your dog sh1t on the piers?

Some dog owners/walkers are real pigs in this town. Maybe we should hand over a ticket with a heftier fine, you know, for some extra money. We’re gonna need it, anyway.

It’s all about prioritizing…

It’s unimaginative, just like most of the projects in Hoboken. A concrete slab.

The Hoboken planning board could have required a percentage of the pier to be green space, but apparently they didn’t. So don’t blame Toll Brothers, blame the City for approving it like this.

Also, keep in mind that this was built with your tax dollars. Toll Brothers received $6 million from the government to complete their portion of the Waterfront Walkway.

I don’t mind it, it is a little boring. I was there Friday afternoon, and the sun was literally blinding on the like concrete. My niece and nephew made us leave because they could barely open their eyes. I think it definitely needs something..
