Yeung II Chinese / Japanese

2010 Update:

Formerly known as Tokugawa

Complicated. Yeung II closed downtown – is now W. Kodak Jewelers.

Yeung II apparently merged with (or has the same owners as) the old Tokugawa back in 2008 (which was highly rated Front Page prior to that).

They changed the name of the business (back) to Yeung II.

See menu here. Located at 1120 Washington Street. Call them at (201)420-7197

Previous updates (for historical purposes only) after the break.

I noticed this sign added to the Tokugawa restaurant recently. “Asian cuisine available now.”

What were they serving before?

Read review from earlier in 2008 after the jump…

Read the world’s shortest restaurant review after the jump.

During the past 4-6 months, I have eaten at many restaurants (for purpose of review) that haven’t yet appeared on Hoboken411. I have 100’s of pictures, and most of the time I take notes.

I lost one of my notebooks.

So as I was going through my photos, and figured I’ll sum this up based on memory:

Tokugawa was very enjoyable. I can’t remember what I ordered, but some kind of “lunch box,” along with some spicy tuna and other appetizers. I know this, they’re still running their “Grand Opening” discount (10% off) and more residents enjoy it, rather than hate it. Many miss Front Page, though.

I’ll go again, since it’s in the ‘hood. Sorry for the horrible review. At least the pics are ok.

What are your thoughts of Tokugawa Sushi? And do we really need more Sushi uptown?

4/12/2007 Update:

Now called “Tokugawa Sushi”. Again with the “wishful thinking” on the part of each and every owner that has given me their best “guesstimate” of when they’ll open. Hey don’t blame me for reporting bad info. I just relay what these folks tell me.

Let’s see. They look what, a month away from opening? I’ll have to program that into the H.A.T.T.:

Based on this estimate, it takes 3.5 times longer than what the owner thinks.

Look at some of the previous pictures…

10/24/2006 Update:

Just in case any of you are wondering, Front Page has essentially finished their gut-job and will be starting the conversion to the new Japanese restaurant shortly.

8/25/06 Update: I confirmed that Front Page will be closed for renovations for two months starting on September 1st. They will be converting to a straight sit-down Japanese Restaurant.

fairly pleased with my experience with this place (delivery). food came in very reasonable amount of time; quality was good; and portion size was sufficient (definitely better than illuzion).

This restaurant serves the best food in Hoboken. The staff is very friendly, even when I bring in my kids or my mother in law or even both! The cooked food and the sushi are first rate.

Wait, what the hell are crab people? They sound sort of frightening.

I think they’re letting everyone know that they’re now serving the old Front Page menu as well as the sushi. I used to go there 1-2 times a week when it was FP and the Chinese food there is great, so it’s a good move. I like these guys because they’re very neighborhood-like and know you when you go in there…but the food really is good for an inexpensive Chinese place.

They now serve Thai, Chinese, etc, as well as Japaense, hence the sign.

I want to open a sushi place and only serve cheeseburgers.
