Brady - it is reflective of the Democratic Party in New Jersey. Boss Hague left a pretty darn long lasting legacy in Jersey that still lives today.

well - sure, in Hudson and Bergen county, and all of NJ, which is dominated by Democrats - yes, the Democrats carry on the corruption. But I do not think that is reflective of the Democrat party as a whole. I don't think the corruption exist in NJ because of of the Democrats either. I'm looking farther than just Hudson and Bergen...I'm from Pennsylvania originally, which has it's fair share of corruption. It's not unique to either party in PA. PA is fairly middle of the road politically. It's a gun state, mostly pro life/religious population, but is on the center/left side of a lot of social issues. There's been corruption in PA for ages - and it's taken down Repubs and Dems.

Sure - in Hudson and Bergen, where from what I've seen there aren't even really Republican options, no one has thrown out the corrupt Democrats (though some have been Republican, but very few).

Bottom line is - get involved. Get your friends involved. Make sure your family is involved. Make a difference where you can, and create the snowball effect for positive.<!--begin reply-->

But in the end you are right the final word is apathy.</div><!--end reply-->

<div class="replied_to_style">there are 52 blue dog dems in congress because much of our country is more nested towards the center of the political spectrum and doesn't want the extreme liberals or extreme conservatives as their voices. there are plenty of people in the democrat party that want to throw the bums out too. it's pervasive in politics, and has a blind eye to the party. to think that any party is handling it better, in my opinion, i just don't think that is so. Sure - NJ is a very corrupt political state. There's lots of outside influences. It also happens to be an old school, blue collar, democrat state. But to use these facts as an inference that it's the dems that are more corrupt is just not intelligent to me at all. That would be assuming that if republicans were more prevalent here, with the same bribes coming their way - that they would turn those bribes away. They are people - unethical people exist in both parties, in many companies, in all types of positions at companies and in society.

It's up to the voters to speak up and demand that he be removed.</div><!--end reply-->

i almost want to start voting for every new candidate also. no more incumbents. make the turnover greater at every level. in my opinion though, the thing that needs to happen is more voter turnout/involvement.

tons of people may have voted in the presidential election, comparatively speaking, but i bet a lot of the people stop right there. people need to write in to their state and federal representatives, their senators, their local politicians, and let them know what they want. until people become more involved, politicians will continue to get away with these things.<!--begin reply-->

<div class="replied_to_style">Of course the GOP will take advantage, that doesn't mean all members of the GOP are innocent either. Maybe if every rinky dink town didn't have their own BOE, mayor & city council there might be a whole lot less corruption all around. It is a little harder to sneak this junk past folks when you have a smaller more efficient government (that doesn't employ half the frigging town) and a larger pool of voters scrutinizing how the local government spends their money.

I actually think the corruption is so pervasive in Jersey that you almost have to wonder if any long time career politician in NJ (Republican & Democrat alike) is immune to its influence. I almost want to vote almost exclusively for folks who have little experience b/c they might be the least corrupt b/c politics isn't their livelihood.</div><!--end reply-->

<div class="replied_to_style">If he were a Republican, the party would have asked him to leave by now. Correct me if I am wrong, but Nixon resigned specifically b/c the Republicans in Congress told Nixon that more than enough of them would go along w/ impeachment (hardly the only example I can cite - but since he was a President, figured that would be good enough) so he was a dead duck anyway. And bonus points if you can figure out which prominent Republican wrote Nixon a memo asking him to resign.....I bet you won't like the answer.

But I am curious why you think all Republicans are crooks? Most Republicans stand for cutting spending and cutting taxes so that the citizens can keep more of their own money in their own pockets. So if that is the case, doesn't that make Democrats the crooks? They are upping the spending and taxes to well above the level required to maintain services. They are the ones taking money for no show jobs, useless promotions, overly generous benefits & pensions, tax giveaways to connected families who make six figures, a payroll that is easily 20% larger than needed, etc.... So doesn't that make the folks that support these policies in Jersey the crooks? And let me guess, you are one of them. So doesn't that make you a crook of sorts? Sure it is legal to take someone's money for useless BS via taxation, but that sure as heck doesn't make it ethical. It is just legalized theft. The government is real good at legalizing theft when it suits some politician's purposes. Too bad Petey didn't stick to stealing and wasting taxpayer dollars the legal way like his mentor Quimby did. If he had done that, we would have just hated him. But by resorting to bribery we not only get to hate him, we get to toss him in a deep dark hole for a few years, take away his license to practice law & make him resort to pumping gas to make a living when he gets out of the big house ;-)</div><!--end reply-->

The government is real good at legalizing theft when it suits some politician’s purposes. Too bad Petey didn’t stick to stealing and wasting taxpayer dollars the legal way like his mentor Quimby did. If he had done that, we would have just hated him. But by resorting to bribery we not only get to hate him, we get to toss him in a deep dark hole for a few years, take away his license to practice law & make him resort to pumping gas to make a living when he gets out of the big house
